I really need to make some ducting for my SMIC ARC intercooler and stock radiator from my C-West nose, so I was wondering if any of you guys have some pics of what you\'ve done to help my ideas? :cheers
I\'m gonna be making some ducting this weekend bud and i\'m planning on doing a write up so look out for it come sunday, but if you cannot wait:
Basically i got some aluminium from B&Q and some cardboard, i\'m gonna remove the I/C and use the cardboard to make a template and then cut the ali to for the final ducting, i also got some insulation tape (this is a thin foam tape with one side that\'s sticky, was pricey @ £18 but looks ideal) whin the ali is i\'m planning on cutting 4 sides and holding them together with small hinges (so it will be easy to remove and will allow for some adjustability) and then the insides will be sealed with the foam tape stuff). Simple really
I have the ReA SMIC and I found that the standard ducting was fine with the stock bumper. Now I have different I guess I should make a better one with the extra space.
The rad just seems to be in the way too much to reach the bottom of the cooler as i\'d like :3Confused
Ive got a Rmagic Cooling plate which is excellent for the standard set-up and imo really looks the part.
Its not cheap tho, I know newera sell them.

Please dis-regard the cheesy mazdaspeed badge:D
Ive got an ARC stockmount after ditching an X Power item so that I could once gain use the standard ducting. I beive the XS one would work just as good once the ducting is sorted.
Ive also bought a cooling plate for the looks and hopefully some benefit. I bought the Carbing one from my "mates" at Nengun. Its been finally shipped after 3 1/2 months wait! Whoop whoop!
Chris
That cooling plate looks quite handy, I take it that it is just the plate you can see at the top? Useful, but I really need to capture all the air my C-West nose is grabbing through its gaping mouth! :D
Dont forget to leave some air for the rad
Interested in this also, I have a Greddy / Trust SMIC and the standard ducting doesnt quite fit at the bottom so the rad blows hot air upwards into it.
Was going to have a look at ducting but was waiting for a sunny day !!!!!!!
I\'ve got this home-made affair. MyTrust intercooler was bought secondhand so didn\'t have ducting with it. I basically trimmed the standard placcy one to fit the IC properly and then kinda built an ally box around it. All you can see is the top plate in this pic, though, sorry!. Made a small vent so as to allow cool air from the bumper ducting to get to the airfilters, too, kinda like the standard flat air deflector thing did to the original airbox. I think it doesn\'t let enough air out to reduce flow through the IC, which is good. Certainly intake temps don\'t seem too scary, even in the hot weather. Also extended the scoop bit in the bumper aperture a bit with some carbon sheet. Currently working on stage two, which is some heat shielding for the induction kit, bodged up from more ally sheet and some carbon fibre!

I like that Nick, does it go far down towards the radiator/bumper opening?
i modified my stock ducting a bit the other week choping bit out here and there under the metal sheet you can see.

i want to make the opening at the front bigger as well

Yeah, underneath it\'s basically the same as the original black plastic one (in fact bits of it still
are the standard plastic dust, cos I couldn\'t be arsed trying to bend ally plate around where the aircon dryer goes lol). I just extended it forward a bit where the intake snout protrudes into the bumper orifice using some carbon offcuts I had and used ally to box in the sides where the Trust IC didn\'t really mate up with the stock mountings. The standard IC is a lot narrower and sits more upright, so there were little gaps everywhere that needed boxing in. It\'s a bit of a lash up, but seems to work ok, and the bits that can be easily seen look good!
Did you have any temp figures before and after you fitted the ducting Nick ?
No! Only had the PFC up and running for a week, so I\'ve no idea what sort of temps it was running before. I know I\'ve never been so paranoid about watching temps and readouts and all that before, ignorance was most certainly bliss. Now I drive along watching the comander more than the road just waiting for it to knock or overheat or blow up or whatever. Hopefully the novelty will wear off soon!

Welcome to the club :yes
No it nevers wears off !!!!!!!
Damn! Like I haven\'t got enough to worry about with state oppression, CCTV, the council stealing my email and going through my bins, the pixies at the bottom of the garden that sneak into the garage at night and break random bits on the car, petrol prices, and the Matrix constantly being re-spliced, now I\'m gonna be paranoid about intake temps and knock readings for the rest of my life, too!
reckon i used to watch it more than the road too lol, but with the greddy gauges i set mine to alarm if it every reach 95 so i could then keep an eye on it.. my gauge was about 5 degrees higher than what the commander said..
Yeah, I\'ve noticed that my GReddy gauges seem to react more quickly than the commander. They\'re certainly easier to read at a glance lol, which is important, cos I\'m gonna rear-end a bus at this rate!
