Title: Boost issue ?!?!?
Post by: Shaq on March 16, 2004, 08:43:38 AM
I know I know there seems like there’s a thread one this subject everyday, I have this boost problem with my rx7 gen3 I have searched and looked at some troubleshooting websites, anyway my car boosts sometimes at 0.8bar (which is good) then sometimes I get 0.4 or even 0 ! this happens everyday I never know how it will behave. :(

Its really intermittent sometimes it does this other time s it would be fine cant understand what it can be I have checked the vacuum hoses (under the plenum), I have checked the all the joining couplers they seem to be fine?!?!

Any ideas ?!?!?! maybe the pills? / oneway check valve?

If it\'s not a hose (or joint) or one of the intake pipes leaking then it\'s most likely one of the solenoids - could be cracked or sticking.

solenoids ah man i didnt want to hear that i was saying to my self it could be one of them but they dont really tend to go ?!?!

but sounds like something could be sticking because it boosts fine sometime 0.8 then sometime s 0.4?

how would i test them out ?

0.4 is not even 6psi, even if one of the solenloids is up the duff you should get a minimum of 7 psi(safety boost) anything less then this is a BOOST LEAK, check the main rubber coupling that connects the outlet of the twin turbo pack into the black crossover tube that goes into the cooler. You need to take the rubber coupling completely off to inspect it and check for cracks

blitzboy,

i have inspected all the joining couplers they all look fine no rips if there was one of these it would only loose alot of boost when the engine is warm, but my boost problem happens any time warm or coldish.

i will have another good look tonight as the weather seems good for once! come around give us a hand if you want ! lol :p

i will keep you posted....

na this happens when the car is cold as well, take that main black coupling off completely remove the jubilee clips off and you will probably see the rip or tear hidden by the jubilee clip

the thing is this problem is intermittent it boosts whenever it wants, if there was a rip on the coulpers surely it would not go past a certain psi as it would always be leaking?

u would think so, but u got other factors, like vibration, surface of the road, air temp.

oh ok
... i cleaned the turbo precontrol and wastegate control solenoids on my car last night seems to have done the trick, but dont know how long it will last,

i belive i have a cat back system
where is the best place to buy a decat and downpipe from ?
will it not run too lean without a uprated ecu?

If you get a larger downpipe and remove the CAT then you should really get a uprated ECU so it can\'t be mapped to avoid running lean etc
