My new project car is already equipped with 2 x Mocal oil coolers, now is this going to be overkill or will I actually need them both? I run one Mocal cooler on my 205 MI16 and oil temps rarely go over 85 degrees when driven hard.
I\'m just a bit worried that with 2, the oil is never going to get up to decent working temperature. (I know the Type R\'s come with 2, but I doubt they\'re as good as the Mocals...)
i would run one and sell one to me!

You can have the one that needs welding then :D
Why don\'t you use a thermostat?

I\'m not using anything at the moment, there\'s no engine!
Then why are you worried about you oil temps? Even with no coolers they\'ll stay at ambient (in the containers still) :p
But seriosuly, you can get oil therostats so the coolers only have oil going through them when the oil\'s up to temp (but I assume you already know this!)

Yeah that was my train of throught to be honest, but I don\'t want to run 2 coolers, if I can get away with 1. It just seems to complicate things to me...
id say use one cooler on the passenger side and use the space on the drivers side for some cool air ducting mods :D

It\'s a good job the one on the passenger side doesn\'t need welding then ain\'t it :D
lol it must be fate!!
I\'d definitely run them with a thermostat - IMHO 85C is running too cold for oil, I\'d want to see 90C-100C anyway to help with the evaporation of various nasties that tend to accumulate in the oil...
I\'ve just changed mine around a little. I still have the nearside cooler in place. The offside cooler has been removed to make room for the air filter. I now have a large oil cooler across the front as a primary cooler, which feeds into the nearside cooler before returning to the engine. I have a thermostat in line. The return pipe from the coolers is normally cold to the touch, so I would say that you need the stat to keep the oil from being overcooled.
