Title: exhaust note
Post by: mattywhitt on June 16, 2008, 09:06:38 PM
Hi, i currently have have a trust power extreme exhaust fitted, do you think a titanium one will sound any better/louder/different? Or will i just be saving weight? Got the chance of 1. Does anybody have the trust exhaust? Thanks

youll get diff opinions mate, some people like loud some hate it, i think youd roughly get the same loud noise with a straight through system like Gurj\'s FD on the bottom vid titanium or no titanium...depends what you think of it

I like it loud! Mine is straight through at the minute, i thought a titanium would sound different/ louder? Its a kakimoto exhaust i can get.

Why don\'t you get the Titanium box and swap it over (10 min job) and you can see for yourself then.
I have a titanium backbox and swapped it for a stainless twin exit type. The stainless sounded much more deeper and louder, but I definitely noticed it pulled better on acceleration with the titanium exhaust, so I have fitted that back on.

I had a kakimoto on a previous r33 gtr skyline and it sounded awesome so i would recommend it on that base...but would like to hear one on a rotary :driving

Be careful i never heard of kakimoto makeing titanium exhausts. It\'s probably the z01 (or soething similar) which is stainless but very thin gauge metal so is relatively light. Also i have 80mm kakimoto and it annoyingly loud with a sports cat, make sure you have good midpipe silencer or you will simply get fed up of driving the car.

Hi matt. Had a Kakimoto z01GT on my old RX and it was very loud and boomy, set off car alarms no probs, was very free flowing I think.

Thats just a titanium burnt tip option i would say. If it was real and used it would rainbowed all the way along. The gt1.0z is always confused for titanium as it\'s so light but thats because it is race spec and very thin gauge.

It\'s been mandrel bent - titanium exhaust bends are cut and welded.

Post by: Timmy on June 18, 2008, 08:03:44 PM
The owner may not like it. But wait till it is dark get your dremel out and grind a bit off the flange. Titanium will give lots of white spraks and s/s will give very little yellow sparks.

Post by: mattywhitt on June 18, 2008, 08:10:05 PM
Ha ha, dont think that will be happening. Why do you think it looks titanium?
Title: exhaust note
Post by: Timmy on June 18, 2008, 08:14:27 PM
The blue colour to it, s/s is normaly goldy colour. The problem is this effect can be also caused by chemicals. The only other way is weigh it and make a guess it should be approx 2/3s of the weight of the s/s version. But you\'ll need the weight of the s/s version as i said above the s/s version is a fairly light exhaust as it is.

I am not convinced it will be a better exhaust than what i have got, and i dont like outward rolled tips!

You could try a magnet on it. If does not stick then it\'s titanium.

Post by: prince_of_tokyo on June 18, 2008, 10:19:59 PM
thats gonna be one LOUD mutha looking at the size of the backbox...

i think the tip is titanium for show, the rest of the system is not titanium me thinks due to the comments of it being mandrel bent which are true...titanium is cut and welded

id recommend a silenced mid-pipe if your looking to do some track work, or even for general driving as youll go deaf lol

It can be mandrel bent, apparently expensive to do. Maybe they get away with it cause the fd exhaust is so straight.

Well, if that is the case then I stand corrected. All titanium exhausts I have seen have be cut and welded at the angles.

i did a quick google. found an old thread on a forum about it. Apparently jic titanium is mandrel, depends on the grade and so on. But did say most of them are cut and welded.

Thread revival! I tried a magnet on the whole length of the exhaust and it doesnt stick.

High grade stainless isn\'t very magnetic.

But since i\'ve also got a titanium exhaust which is the same colour as yours. Kakimoto do exhausts to spec so it propbably is titanium. Like i said best thing to do is grind it and watch the sparks.

I\'ve just put a full straight-through titanium on mine and at low revs if anything it\'s quieter than the cat and Nur-Spec that were on there before. It really howls when you open her up, though. Only got a little tiny mid-box, too, and the downpipes a gaping bloody great hole, so dunno why it\'s so quiet. Bizarre but true :3Confused

if you look at that black fd with the big wing, second video, the rear box doesnt look like its got much of a silencer in there, it looks more like a straight bit of pipe. i bet that is ludicrously loud when its on full boost!
