Title: Uprated clutch?
Post by: TeamTotalWankel on June 16, 2008, 03:20:37 PM
Hi all,

Had a bit of fun at the weekend and managed a 1/4 mile in 14.091 @ 105.24mph, with a 0-60mph of 5.573, at York Raceway. The car came 2nd out of a field of 30 odd cars in the \'sprint\' section narrowly missing out (by 0.2secs) on top spot to a space framed bike engined Reliant Kitten with NOS!!
Anyway, after all this \'fun\' my clutch didn\'t have such a good time. I\'ve looked in all the usual places for an uprated clutch (ebay, ebay and ebay) and the best option seems to be a stage 1 (288bhp) one from the US. Although the pound\'s good the postage is a bit of a killer. Just wondered if anyone has any other suggestions?

Cheers,
Nick

I think Clive of Mazda Rotary Parts sells an uprated FC clutch - it\'s an organo-metallic puck type clutch - probably good for well over 300 BHP, but the uprated Organic Cluthes from Exedy should be good for 300+ if you don\'t have too many violent launches - lol :driving I manage to get about 2 years of hard launches out of one - and it\'s still very driveable on the street - which is the main factor for me.

I have a spare used Os Giken twin plate clutch system. Complete with lightweight Flywheel, will handle in excess of 700hp.
Each plate has approx 3.8mm When new they are 4.0mm and have a minimum service limit of 3.0mm

Yours for £300

i\'ve used these guys: http://www.turboimport.com/catalog/rx7.htm
i got the HEAVY DUTY STREET CLUTCH - ZX3-HDMM, pedal is a bit stiffer but the bite is amazing and it\'s still easy to slip the clutch.

Thanks for all you input guys I\'ve got plenty to mull over there.

Ta Driftmotion, but I think that\'s a little OTT for my needs. I\'m guessing the flywheel is a s0d to get off with the engine in situ?

other way around, have you ever tried to undo the flywheel with the engine on the floor ??  no chance !!!!  not without dancing with the engine around the garage.  At least in situ it will only move as far as the mounts allow.  If its in a stand then it\'ll be fine.  I had a 3 foot long bar on mine, applied heat and it just would not budge.  decided to keep the flywheel on until the lump is fitted and then i will have another go.
