Title: Noticed again...
Post by: Kevin on June 16, 2008, 11:52:21 AM
Over the past couple of months a real drop in the average price of the FD.  Real shame, but I suppose it\'s inevitable with the rising cost of fuel, shopping, and a high priced stagnant housing market.

Crazy prices now though, seeing though there are 400bhp single turbo FD\'s for sale for just over £5K.  Seeing though you were struggling to find one for less than £8K this time last year.

FD\'s with brand new rebuilds for less than what an actual rebuild costs!!  I saw a standard 93 FD the other week in silver with only 100 miles on the clock and about 10 months left of it\'s engine warrenty, for sale for £3295! :2eek

Definately a buyers market at the moment, as I cant even get them this condition this cheap from Japan. :spank

i think the reason some cars are so cheap is probably due to financial pressure.

Ands alot of people buying them without doing homework and not realising the time and effort taken to look after them!

yeah, people want something for nothing these days...

And its the reason I\'ve decided to keep mine... I just couldn\'t let it go for such low price.

It shocking - when i look at what I paid for mine - I know i probably paid slightly over the odds, but when i look and see what i paid for mine last novemeber, adn what you can get for that now it\'s truly galling.
However, from a selfish point of view - do i care? Nope. I don\'t plan on selling her any time soon, I\'m too in love. Worth every highly devalued penny :)
Taking her to Prescott Hill Hillclimb this weekend just confirmed that. At the end of the day, it\'s only money, it\'s ther to be enjoyed :)

But i really feel for people who are having to sell for financial reasons, the bottom is just falling out the market :(

I\'m struggling to sell mine with a brand new rebuild.

Going to stick it on ebay next week

If it\'s any consolation, exactly the same happened with the 200sx market - loads were broken for parts to get back most money, as it was worth far more in bits.

Now, the prices do seem to have buoyed a tad. I sold mine for more than I bought it, after nearly 3 years of ownership.

The market has just collapsed really.....people dont have as much expendable income as opposed to 3-4 years ago, fuel is going up, house market is looking dodgy, and to top it all....the FD3\'s are getting on for 17 years old now dont forget.

You can get twin turbo supra\'s for less than 5k now, evo4\'s, sti imprezza\'s, r32 gtr\'s...the list goes on.

I think the FD has fallen into a funny area in terms of it\'s age and wether or not it\'s classed as a classic.  I would love for the FD to become a collectors piece as I think it deserves that title, but being Japanese with pleanty of abused dogs on the market I hope it doesnt end up with for example an XR3i status.

A mate of mine the other week purchased another lotus esprit, it\'s 1989 (G) 2.2l 4cyl non-turbo 170bhp model with high mileage, poor paint job, and overall needs alot of attention.  He just give £9000 for it, on the way home the clutch give out, it needs a new one, plus new flywheel and whole exhaust system.  I would like one day to see FD\'s fetching this kind of money too.

I agree with quite a few of you with regards to im not overally bothered what the FD market is like as I love my FD\'s and plan to keep a couple of them for my own personal use.

With regard to what si says about the 200sx market I agree too, but we brought over a very mint pearl white s14 with a few tasty mods, which i\'ve recently sold and it made us quite a profit.  The new owners are over the moon and keep sending me pictures of it. lol.

An FD is for life, not just for Xmas lol

That seems to be the case - for that kind of dosh it\'d be pointless to sell.

Sod knows what I\'ll be doing with mine if/when the immigration to the US looms. Oh well, another six years and I could at least ship the FC over, then another three years and I should be able to get the FD in as a classic...

Its a bummer but its like the lad says,  financial preasures.....  Oh and the cost of FULL fat Optimax is gonna condem these cars before any politician could.

I ride bikes now and both of mine do less than 40 when being USED.....  When I had my RX7 the best I ever got was maybe 20 MPG on a run down the A1 to the thorsbey park show...

Its a bummer and its gonna get a lot worse.  I was in Tyneside Autopark yesterday and the lack of Hot Imports said it all....
