Title: New to this RX7 lark please help!
Post by: MGP on June 15, 2008, 09:47:23 PM
Having been on the Jap seen for many years owning several skyline\'s ownership was always great fun, however time went on i got older and 3 small people suddenly turned up in my life so cars had to go.

But now its time for me to get another weekend toy. I have always had a softspot for the gen 3 RX7 but knowing nothing about rotary engines i always kept clear.

At this point i would like to give praise to all the moderators, members and guests for putting together such an informative web site forum.

I was wondering if anybody could give me some feedback on the following car avertised on pistenheads / reccomend a car coming up for sale in the near future from this site

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/561962.htm

I can\'t seem to access the for sale section although i do think its because i\'m not a full member? Saying that i will join once a rx7 is purchased.

Generally speaking what is the best spec / year to go for and what sort of money should i be spending

Kind regards

I would suggest that 3 years without registering it, maybe a reason. Like cannot get it thru an MOT maybe worse. If it\'s all ok it\'s a bargain.

Hi mate, try and get the latest revision possible, they are <12/95 - 1/96 - 12/98 - 1/99> something like that.  I\'m sure there is the exact info on here somewhere.  There are changes like 8 to 16 bit, bigger wheels, bigger brakes, different bumpers and other smaller touches.

Here is a site that will give you an end of production date for pretty much any car.

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48065

you\'ll need to translate it in google.

Going to go and check mine now :) I\'m sure mine is a 96 as it has a different spoiler, wheels and brakes than the earlier models.

Can you make it to Santa Pod next Sunday? we\'ll have a few RX-7s there and people to chat to.

Seems quite cheap for the setup its running and with a recent rebuild ???

Ask for some pics of the car and engine bay and also info on where the rebuild was done to get a better picture of the car.

Wellcome aboard matey!

You will need proof of the re-build and a warrenty if possible (normally 12 months from rebuild date).  Without the proof it may as well be priced as not having a re-build.  A rotary compression test by a specilaist can give some idea of life, but nothing is set in stone.

More of a spec and some pics from the seller would also be a definate!

Hi cheers for the feedback i have e-mailed and spoke to the lad selling it.  He seems quite geniune he has sent  load of photos and the car looks stunning.  The car was going to be a project for him and a circuit car only thats why he said it was not registered however why not register a car for the UK roads!  I personnaly could not be bothered to put it on a trailer each time i wanted to use it.

My search continues!

I would like to get to Santapod this sunday but i do not think it will go down to well with the wife.  It would be nice to meet some of you all and look at an RX7 up close instead of shooting past me at break neck speed on the motorway.

Whereabouts in Kent are you? How much are you looking to spend? I may have something of interest, and I\'m in Maidstone...

If your looking for a Single then mine might be up for grabs shortly, i\'m a bit of a drive away from you though.

Let me know if you\'d like more details, will be for sale later on in the summer or if you make me a good enough offer i might be persuaded to let it go before then.

i\'m in kent as well and have two rx\'s - neither for sale i\'m afraid but if you\'re in the bromley area anytime and you want drop by to have a look feel free. One has a chequered past and is soon to be broken if you need some telltale signs to look for when you\'re buying!
