Title: Clutch going?
Post by: MintyFresh on March 15, 2004, 12:18:58 PM
My car feels underpowered, and the clutch is biting right at the top of the pedal.  I also get a nice clutch burning smell when i get out of the car most days.

sound familiar???

If your clutch is going normally after 3-4000 revs if you keep your foot on the power the revs seem to go up but the car doesn\'t keep pulling, or at least it doesn\'t keep pulling as fast as the revs are going.....thats what happened with mine anyway....

cheers

Yeah sounds like your clutch is going. Same thing happened to me, had a clutch burning smell and it smoked when I drove it for long periods. Also when the second turbo came on sometimes there would be no increase in speed as the clutch was just slipping.

Got a new mazda clutch fitted at Re:Worx and the difference is amazing, car feels so much faster!

I had the clutch go on my Celica, and like Donato says, it just revved to the red line with no speed increase, but im not getting that now.

Im getting burnt clutch smell, not as much pull as i would expect, but the revs are rising astronomically.

If it was just a quick slip, would the revs drop a little when the clutch bites again coz thats kind of what i get when i put my foot down.  between 3-4,000 revs it seems to hold back quickly.

Take a look at this thread, theres a test you can do to find out if your clutch is slipping:

Ive got the same symtpoms mate, have just ordered a exedy single platre organic clutch from DP motorsport, came in at £440 and should be here early next. Heres a link to their site:

exedy clutchs at dp (http://www.dpmotorsport.com/parts/exedy/home.htm)

They do the full range if you after cerrametallic, twin plate, etc.

I\'ve literally just ordered so cant comment as to delivery times, etc but service seems good so far ;)

If you go for the Hyper clutches you get a lightened flywheel with it. Geff does them a bit cheaper than DP incidentally...
