Title: Door Handle Seized
Post by: MintyFresh on March 15, 2004, 12:15:21 PM
My drivers side door handle has locked solid.  It managd to do it just as i parked the car as close to a wall as possible so getting in the passenger side was impossible.  Into the boot i went.

Anyways, has this happened to anyone else?  Ive read about people with snapped handles, but i knew of a problem and didint pull too hard.
I\'ve taken it apart and cant see an obvious problem, could it just be seized and need a squirt of WD40???

Help me.....

I cant think why it wouldnt move, unless maybe the door hadnt unlocked.  I cant even remember if the handle moves when its locked or not.

Welcome to the boot club :D

i always pull the handle when i lock it, and it does move locked or unlocked.

I will try WD40, does anyone know of any reason why i shouldnt WD40 the mechanism?

inside the door

i.e. behind the handle there is a black covering, pop that off and check behind there, when you wd-40 the mechanism shouldnt be bad for the handle if anything it will help it....

You haven\'t owned an FD until you\'ve climbed in through the boot :)

See this  thread where I had a similar problem, and the resolution to it.

Ive just taken the handle apart and shot it with WD40, within seconds the handle was working again.

I really should do the basics before coming crying to you guys for help.  :)
