Title: door handle lights
Post by: ashc on June 12, 2008, 11:53:31 PM
i\'ve had two fds and never seen a door handle light working - is it a myth? what do they look like?! Can i just change the bulbs to get them working?

Hmm never had any mention that before.

Funny you mention it though as I was going to fit some and wanted to know how to do, I had the handles out recently and cant remember any bulb or anything like that, but saying that I never really looked.
Handles got to come out so will check, some time this week.

Cheers

yep, i\'ve found the bulbs and wiring but havent had a chance to test if the bulbs are dead or there is no power. i think the bulbs are a bit small for direct led replacement though

Took mine out today and could see no bulbs at all, I have an early type X, I found a bung under the door handle part you lift to open the door so looks like no lights for me well not yet, till i wire some in, Ash you got any pics?

Is it on both sides, as my passenger has no wires going to it at all.
will pull the drivers out again but when looking at the lock only looks like i have a key hole no transparent part for light to shine throuhg.
I know the steering cowel has light may run a feed form that to iluminate under the lift up part as well.

only drivers and in the actual hole where the key goes in the key mech.
Title: I see the light

Well not yet but I have found the bulb in the drivers side, and the passenger side also has the wiring on the door but no wiring going to the handle and no bulb so will be sorting that out as well whilst i am at it

Now then when is it lit, is it constant? or when alarm is disarmed?

anyone also know when the barrel key is lit is that an alarm thing as well.

any idea so I can understand the on off pattern.
That would be great,

thanks

this might help, havent sorted mine yet as its raining, will perhaps try sunday.
as far as i understand, the light illuminates the lock barrel when the door handle is lifted, drivers side only. bit pointless really, since if you can see the door handle, you can see the lock!

I am going to wire the interior light feed to some tiny leds under the handle, so the whole lot glow when the alarm is disarmed (normally just the interior lights come on. I\'m going to draw the line at under-canard UVs though!!

Nice one ash we have the same idea, with the leds, only issue is not sure if my alarm turns on the interior light will have to check.
Thanks for the diagram will try the handle thing.

Mine lights up! I\'ve never even noticed because the alarm remote locks/unlocks it, I\'ve never used the key to open it ever! Only went out and had a look after reading this. What a redundant idea, was it the Mazda designer\'s April Fool prank or something?

they iluminate if you pull the handle up same way as the ingnition light,so get to car pull handle, lights up, put the key in and unlock, they go out same time as the ignition key light,ie when you\'ve put the key in the ignition
