Title: what switch do i need and where can i get it :D
Post by: dthebuk on June 12, 2008, 07:51:24 PM
OK so my passenger window will only go down from the drivers side switch and the only way to make it go up is with the passengers switch. So is there a specific switch that i need to change? Any info welcome :D

cheers

Just try working the switches continually, or take them apart and get some emery cloth on the contacts. This problem is normally from lack of use :wave

okey doke. So are these pretty different to the switches for the lights? Seeing as most people seem to replace them

The light/Wiper switches are actually operating a series of minature relays - its the relays that fail in those units.  The window switches are just that - switches, so a fix should be simple enough. :wave

are you talking about FC or FD.

i have FC doorcards, so have both driver and passenger switches available, should yours have fatal issues.

if you buy the switches make sure that they are the same, I had a drivers side one that had the auto function on it and apparently the wiring is different, cant confirm that but I have since sold the switch (£30).  nearly all the ones I have seen dont have this function.

ahh.. another useful thread... I shall get out there this evening with the emery cloth... so I take it you don\'t need to remove the door card to remove the switch ????

nah, its sprung loaded. Just get a screw driver under it. And dont attack it too much with emery. The rockers on the switch seem to be silver plated copper and scratching that off will efect the lives of the switches. Solvent cleaner and a toothbrush ftw.

Thanks for the offer matt, but funds are low atm and I think ill just resort to cleaning the switch every few years :D. Sorry to disapoint

Matt you can sell your switches for £20 each, more for the drivers one.  I would buy the switches at that price but already have a spare set.  They are always in demand especially the drive one due to the water getting in them, especially the cabs, that rain gutter does not quite work as well as mazda intended me thinks ?

You\'d think Mazda would\'ve sorted that by the time the FD came out,but no... :Hammer

How do the RX8\'s fair in the rain ? I was contemplating making one of those rubber cover things for mine lol, still bit of kitchen towel does the job, I just leave it on them if it rains for getting in and out of the car.
