Title: Cutting a fibreglass bumper!
Post by: VishalStar on June 12, 2008, 04:53:39 PM
Hi im wondering how hard it is to cut a fibreglass bumper? I have heard it can be done with a metal angle grinder. Would this be ok. i dont want to crack/damage the rest of the bumper just shave about 2-3 cm off the bottom of it.

Got a quote of 600 for it, which is more than i paid to fit, paint, prep and remould the bumper in the first place. i think the garage doing it is a bit of a joke.

Anyone got any ideas?

Shaving a bit off the bottom shouldn`t be a problem, just make sure the bumper is secure and held down tight. £600? what a bunch of c**ts!:3Confused:spank

Be very carefull cutting fiberglass wear a good mask. The fiberglass dust particles are hook shaped when viewed under a microscope. Get them in your lungs and your stuck with them for good. As for cutting a small angle grinder and cutting blade will do the job or a pneumatic body saw with a fine blade.

mate dont know how thick this bumper is but there is nothing difficult with it, just make sure you cut it straight.

use grinder cutter with a metal cutting plate, and make sure you hold it straightafter that sand the sharp edges down with a sand paper ..and make sure you cover your eyes..

i\'ve done it milion times before and never chipped/cracked anything...
