Looking good!
Cars not that bad either :Ladys-man
Bish this is looking great you will never want to drive a FD again! :rollin
Mark
Oh, this is a warmup for the FD!!! *grin*
Quote from: Archbish;506521Oh, this is a warmup for the FD!!! *grin*
does that mean i can have the engine when you are finished!! :)
Mark
looking good Bish
Cheers guys - and NO it doesn\'t!! *grin*

dam dont ask dont get :flamed
*grin* true... As Emo would say, don\'t pray for a rotary engine, steal one and then pray for forgiveness...
Good stuff goin\' on there in deepest Surrey.
Lookinhg good Bish. You must be please how well your baby is coming along.
What colour are you planning to to it and what kind of wheels you going to put on?
Adam
Cheers chaps!! Aye - it\'s going well, one of the advantages of not having a deadline is you can enjoy doing it!!
Tis going to be Mazda Stormy Blue Mica in colour, and thinking of Lenso KR5 17" wheels. Should look pretty awesome.... *grin*
Looking great.
What inlet manifold and turbo is that?
Peter

nice wheels i couldnt make my mine up between them and the kei\'s i have
Mark
It\'s the Greddy intake \'snout\' thing. I didn\'t like the angle of the stock one, and this seems a little kinder on the airflow.
It\'s a budget T04R turbo from OBX. change from £300 delivered, but I\'m certainly not going to be using it for high end reliable power!!
Have you updated your web page about this bish?
Adam

Not yet - I need to, but time and stuff have conspired against me being able to...
but if I get time this week, I\'ll update it - there\'s been a fairbit going on with the car...!!

your painting it in the same colour as mine LOL - paint is awesome when the sun is out...
Nice bit of fabbing there Bish !
This shiny engine thing could catch on ! :Giggle
Looking fab. It will be a quick little brute. The FB seems to be a whole lot of fun without a whole lot of HP !
Shaun
Very nice mate !!!!!!
you are ahead of me bish, well done.
What manifold did you use for the turbo?
Don\'t worry, there\'s plenty for you to catch up on!! *grin*
I bought the manifold from \'Steve\' on Ausrotary. It\'s specifically for a T04 turbo on a 13bT in a 1st gen - reasonably priced compared to what it would cost to get made up over here...
Is that mazda colour the loght blue you see on MX5s?
I see you have raised the bar by the way. Gauntlet is down eh? Right, bigger turbo, more porting, nitrous......
nope, it\'s the very dark blue one. The engine bay is actually that colour (only in matt - I\'m not sanding THAT ****!!), but yet to do the rest of the car - as you can see *grin*
As for the bar, let me start the damned thing first!! The bar may well be set next year, but you need to bear 2 things in mind:
1 - I\'ve never done anything on this scale before
2 - it\'s a budget, so the components may well become the total of their ripoff parts... *lol*
Am gonna be very interested to see what the outcome is tho...
have you wired the ecu, thats my job for next week, that incorperated with a complete new universal loom is stretching my technical abilities.
How much was the manifold?
Haven\'t even BOUGHT the ECU, let alone wired it!! *grin*
Which universal loom have you gone for? I got one from the hoffman group, and each wire is labelled along it\'s length, which will hopefully make life a LOT easier...
The manifold was $300AUS delivered, and looks like a good bit of kit.
could you let me have details of where you got the mani and turbo from, links etc?
antnicuk@msn.com
i used one specific to lotus 7 kit car, which isnt labelled :( but is easy enough to do.
my loom just does the basics, lights indicator etc. why did you need a new loom.?

What ECU are you going for?
I decided to go new loom as most of the stuff on the original I felt was (a) 25 years old so not in the best of form, and (b) meant I could keep the body electrics and the engine electrics seperate. Because the car had a piston engine in it previously, I wasn\'t sure which of the wiring was stock, and which was screwy, so ripping it all out and starting again sounded like the best plan.
I\'ve run the body loom for the front of the car down the chassis rail, so the engine bay should be pretty empty apart from Engine stuff.
Looking to go for a microtech ECU for the fuelling and timing, and then a boost controller of undetermined type for the boost control.
so getting further along in the plan...
the brakes are all complete, the clutch is complete, the wiring is started, and the engine turns over on the key (although without an ECU, it\'s not going to be starting any time soon).
This weekend has been oil cooler hoses & downpipe from the turbo.

Bought the parts from //www.boostdaddy.com, and Marv is a really great guy. Will be buying more parts from this guy again. Getting pretty good at putting these hoses together, and the advantage of making them myself is that I can mock them up on the car, and get it spot on.

Good work big feller. Coming along nicely.
Now just get some fuel in it, open the new car smell air freshner and turn the stereo up :D
Adam
That pic of the turbo and steering box together is a corker. Imagine the old Jap designers sitting in Hiroshima in the \'70\'s. "Ris car wirr nev be serious fast, steering box be OK my Chief Engineer san."
I wish they could see it now.
Have you got the Reg or series \'Bish, and the original colour?
Looking good :Giggle
Got an ETA for the MOT?
looking good bish baby
So big week this week...
Got the ECU from Pip a couple of weeks back, and spent the time putting it in nice and neat. Then got the last bits to give it a start (injector connectors, stuff like that), and tried to start it... Nothing. Asked around, gave Pip a buzz, and found two things - the tdc was 90 degrees out, and the injectors in the base map had 550 primaries, not 1200s. Trimmed 50% out as suggested to give it a start, and BRUM!!! IT WAS ALIVE (albeit briefly and revving very quickly).
So put the 550 primaries back in, reusing the oval connectors from the loom. Spent a few minutes blocking all the bits that would leak to stop it revving (although going to make some proper plates up methinks), put it all in, turned up the map again...
...and BINGO! started up first time! It\'s got quite a high idle, but I\'m putting that down to dodgy sealing and the map needing tweaking.
the best part was (bearing in mind I started it about 1/2 hour ago) turned it off again, and suddenly heard a shout from next door. The deaf retired fella from next door had rushed out after hearing the car from the back of his lounge... and was chuffed to pieces that I\'d got it running!!!
so need to
- sort out a proper oil drain (at the mo, keeping it topped up, and draining it to a nice clean bucket
- get all the coolant bits sealed so it can remain topped up with water
- send the prop shafts off for making one and one alone
- start to put the electronics back in place
- get gauges sorted out
- put gearstick in
- throttle cable
- electric fan
etc, etc
also maybe a screamer pipe, although might just bend and weld it back into the exhaust...
OH IT IS SO ....ING COOL!!!! *GRIN*
anyhow, target is still 12th July for a road legal version (even if not complete!!)

Good man :D
You are so going to enjoy that car !!!! They are awesome without much grunt !

Bish, PLEASE e mail us a Reg to dgnock at btopenworld dot com
I know now it was Red on a C plate, but when you photographed it going onto Bryan\'s trailer that day you little thought I\'d be standing on my head trying unsuccessfully to make out the Reg. from your Photo. I deserve it Bish, I really do, I\'ve followed the trail of this car for yonks.
Cheers Dave.
Love it :)
This is going to be one very fast car

it\'s definitly C something something something something something something...
I\'ll try and dig it out when I get home, I promise!! *grin*
As for fast, I\'d like to think so - the fuelling, ecu, engine, turbo, etc, is all set up to be a bit funky... Although with stock ports, I\'m not going to go over 12psi at the most. Any guesses on final HP figures???
ah i like this game 232bhp in 1200kg car + Bish lol
oh cmon 15psi with that setup
well at 1 bar stock TII ports with a T04R type turbo I would say 300-330 rwhp
with that turbo and 12psi - I\'m going for 346 BHP at the fly
I\'m kinda hoping for 350hp mark, be it fly or rw... Be interesting to see - a while away yet tho!
btw, for the oil drain, I\'m struggling to find a reasonable (see cheap) 45/64 drill bit for front plate, although I have the 1/2 npt tap. So would there be a problem with using a bulkhead fitting through the plate, with a -10an nut on the underside? I\'m going to drop the sump and drill on the flat (where the OMP would normally be), so there should be space under there for fitting this, right?
oh, and any idea how to get rid of oil on a driveway??? *sigh*

I know some of the guys on rx7club.com have used that trick - with a side entry oil return. It must be downhill all the time from the turbo - so that it drains and doesn\'t fill up, otherwise the turbo will smoke ;) although Aaron Cake on their has a welded bung below the oil level in the oil pan that seems to have held up ok. I thought you had a TII lump anyhoo - can\'t you use the flange on the side or is it blocked ?

doh typo honest ment 332bhp was compensating for bish!

Sorry, wasn\'t clear - I meant on the horizontal flat part of the front plate where the OMP would be. I\'ve replaced the T2 front cover with a 12a one so it will go on the stock mounts on the S3 subframe... (listen to me talkin\' all techy!)

Don\'t make me come over there.... :spank

I don\'t know what the 12A plate looks like, but if the idea of a nut on the inside holding a threaded bulkhead fitting in place doesn\'t work - is there enough flat area to mount a flange on it ? In theory you only need two smaller holes tapped and one larger hole to let the oil through, or a weld on fitting ?
well, conveniently, this is not only a front cover similar to my one, and they\'ve not only drilled it, but it\'s got a nice red arrow pointing to the part! *grin*
(http://www.camdensuperchargers.com/images/rx71-2.jpg)
This is an oil return presumably for a supercharger, and I need to do similar for the turbo oil return. As it\'s not going to be under any signficant flex or pressure, there shouldn\'t be any issue with putting the bulk head adapter there, and bolting it up. Drilling and tapping it is popular, but I can\'t find an appropriate bit. And it\'s a bit tight for a flange (I think?). And I\'m a bit scared to weld on a fitting onto the plate - I\'d rather hack a hole in it... *GRIN*
Obviously a nut screwed on in a highly oiled environment isn\'t ideal, but what the hey...
I see the problem now - eek.
If space is tight - what about a fitting that has a right angle - so you could bolt that in - and even chemical metal it in place.
The other alternative is going into the sump.
Go with a BSP fitting. Taps and drills shouldn\'t be hard to come by and you should easily be able to buy a cast 90deg adapter.
Shaun
Well, I do have the 1/2 npt tap, but can\'t find a sub £20 drill bit in the right size (45/64)... The hose end I have is a long 90 one, and that can be easily bent or straightened as required, and the bulk head fitting should allow it to fit without issue, without having to be so very tight on the hole tolerances. (It\'s matching the technique to my abilities as well... *grin*)
