You tell me . I have a std rebuilt engine and only a racing beat back box r magic hard pipes and apexi twin filters on the way. I don\'t realy want to go to made so just a simple swap as possible ie no upgrading on pumps rails or injecters.
so you have stock twins at present?
yep surely you mean turbos and not turbo
When you say it/they are going whats the problem?? alot of people have boost issues with the stock turbos and its not actually the turbos themselves that are the issue usually can be cured by taking to a specialist and getting your car looked at. If your turbos are on there way out you can usually pick up a second hand set for around 2-300 quid.
theres only one answer...just get some second hand stock ones...single turbo means spending some dosh...u will need turbo, manifold, lines gaskets etc...and theres no point going down that route unless u are gonna get a ECU, fuel pump, injectors etc.....
u may as well spend the money on getting your stock set up running well...replace standard vac pipes with silicon/viton....replacing fuel pump wiring, good set of leads and plugs...shouldn\'t cost u much to do that...Atomic rex has turbos for 80 quid...bargain!!
your likely main problem is what we call the "rats nest" which is all the tubes and solenoids that control the boost. There are around 50 tubes that if kinked or have a small hole in will affect your boost, also sometimes the solenoids pay up and stop working correctly. Most of the tuners will replace the tubes and also test the solenoids for you if you dont fancy taking the engine apart yourself.
My advice is to take it to someone who knows what they are lookng at and they can diagnose exactly what the problem is as it could be so many different things
check out the folloing thread.. this is what i am going to do when my turbos pack it in
