Title: Oil Consumption
Post by: Clarky on June 04, 2008, 04:16:48 PM
Checked my oil and it was about 10mm down on the dipstick, that was after doing a 300mile journey, it does smell of oil from behind, and smokes a bit on hard acceleration, also smokes a fair bit on start up, but clears after a short time, any thought please.

Yeah thats ok :) nothing to worry about, you should check/top up your oil every 2 tanks of fuel or so :) and the engine will use more oil if the revs are higher cause it uses it in combustion :)

Every two tanks of fuel?
Meh, perhaps i am being a bit over cautious then - I check it at least once a week, usually before every journey as well.
Even if i hasn\'t moved since i last checked :wiggle

lol.. i think its easy to get over-paranoid with an rx7.  whenever something is *different* every1 jumps to MY ROTA\'s ARE DEAD NOOOOO!! when its probably something ****y like a vac pipe.

They would never have made production if they were that bad, and i bet theres far more conventional engine cars breaking down than rx7\'s out there with similar bills.. head gaskets blowing.. water pumps dying etc.  Mainly because we bother taking pride in our cars, we dont run into these problems.

I check oil probably once a month, just keep an eye on your oil pressure gauge.  When hot the gauge drops i know but its an easy way of keepin track.

and as for changing oil.. the manuals i\'ve seen say every 4k, some people do it at 2k.. tbh thats a preference and dependent on spec.
