Title: ROTORSTOCK - 9th & 10th August
Post by: Lisa on June 04, 2008, 12:14:44 PM
Hi

As Rotorstock 5 is only 2 months away and there appears to be little talk on here about it, just wanted to get a feel whether you are all going to attend.

Once Japshow is out the way, I will announce details for the tickets and what we can offer our full club members.  Santa Pod have offered the clubs £15.00 for a weekend ticket and we will look to reducing this further for full club members.

Don\'t forget on the Saturday you get unlimited runs up the strip for just £20.00  Perhaps we ought to have a trophy for the person who completes the must runs on the Saturday:Giggle

Don\'t forget guys this is your chance to showcase the Rotary engine to all the other Jap cars attending and remember that we are a niche club due whats under your bonnet:Giggle

Anyway - watch this space and more details on Rotorsotck 5 to follow.

See:- http://www.rotorstock5.co.uk/

From e-mails I am receiving its looking good that we will have a bunch of Rotary guys coming from Holland this year headed by Kees who has been over for the last two years, first time with his FD that wowed a lot of people and then last year with his yellow RX-8,

Not sure what he will bring this year as he has a stable full of Rotarys including a Cosmo and a Gen 1 with a Gen 1 trailer !

Yes your right John This is our show and our chance to showcase our Rotarys to the Japanese car community something which all you guys have achieved admirably over the last 4 years,

We have booked a 200 car stand as we did last year for Rotarys to share

We will check about the Friday camping but will warn you that last year we were told to advise anybody wishing to camp Friday night to do so at Billing which is just down the road

Hi everyone!!!

There will be 4 of us coming from France to attend this event both days!!! ( http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49770 )

We can\'t wait to be there, all really excited!!! Hope to meet more of you this year!!!

We have RX7 ourselves and they are very rare in France...! It will be nice to see so many RE all together again!!! As we live pretty far away, it will be easier to come over by plane to London and then rent a car from there...

What are the general thoughts on putting a Rotorstock 5 DVD together (stop me if I\'m treading on any toes here) ?

I\'m happy to donate my quad core plus my current unemployed status to pulling everything together if I know roughly how many of you are taking cameras (stills & video) to the event. We could each focus on one area (drag strip start, drag strip end, drifting, interviewing the crowds, drivers, etc..) and swap and then I could combine all the footage.

Any budding TV presenters out there ?

Was just thinking we could easily beat some of the cack they show on some cable channels these days....... and a Rex show on tele/dvd could do us no harm...

Mart.

Hi Mart

What a fantastic idea - you are now in charge of handling this :Thumbs-up

If you need any help financially to put it together let me know, will be great to be able to put this out on the MRC shop after Rotorstock.

No I don\'t Ash, we can talk about that, have used Pinnacle Studio and Ulead in the past but that\'s before I built myself a hotrod desktop !! hehe

Certainly a show of hands of those who could donate any video footage and who want to be involved would be a good starter for ten. We may be able to sweeten that with an \'access all areas\' type pass or two ?

All creative input welcome....... your chance to do your own Top Gear....

As we are now on the countdown to R5 there will be updates that I will try and bring you as soon possible, like this one

If any of you are going Drifting at R5 you will need to follow this link and register asap as they have told me this morning there are only 60 cars allowed and only on a pre-registered basis so from other events held they expect this to fill up very quickly.

Hi everyone...

After having discussing it with Lisa, she told me it would be a good idea for me to ask you "Rotary lovers" to give us a hand... Here is my question...

There are 4 of us coming from France (by plane) landing at STANSTED Airport... Arriving on the friday (8th August) evening and leaving on the monday afternoon (11th August).

Because we are coming from a long way by plane, we will not be able to carry any tents with us... Do you think it would be possible for one or more person who will be attending ROTORSTOCK 5 on full weekend, to lend us 2 small tents or 1 big (4 people) tent for the saturday night... + 4 sleeping bags ?

It would be really lovely if you could sort something out for us...!

We don\'t know yet where we\'ll be staying on the friday evening and the sunday evening neither... if anyone has a fairly cheap idea, it would be great as well.

Let me know anyway.

Thanks everyone and hope to see you soon.

Regards.

But we are trying to have this weekend as cheap as possible as we are paying quite a lot for plane + renting a car...

Surely, some of you could lend us a tent or 2 with sleeping bags for the saturday night... I\'ve  done it once for english people who came to Le Mans by plane, I know it\'s not always easy...

Come on guys...! It would be great!

I have a 2 man tent available to borrow - it\'s in storage (so not a million miles from you Lisa|) It was unused when it disappeared into there so should be complete - including instructions - in English. Can\'t help with the sleeping bags I\'m afraid. Modern cycle touring style ones pack down very small and don\'t weigh much - you should be able to pack those easily enough for a flight. Unless things have changed you won\'t have much need of a Tuxedo at Rotorstock.

Same for you jinx, it\'s very nice of you...!

Will you be attending Rotorstock 5...? Will you be able to bring that tent with you?

I\'ll try to find a sleeping bag on my side to put in a bag if I can...

Thanks.;)

Hi Guilhem.
I won\'t be at Rotorstock so, if it is alright with Lisa and Clive, I\'ll get the tent over to them to add to the other four thousand items and three cars they have to get there. If they have not got space for it, I\'ll find someone else to carry it.

Would picking both tents up from the club stand be easier than wandering around looking for individuals? Perhaps Lisa would not mind standing guard over them till you arrive. You should be easy to spot with all those merit badges on your sleeve :D

Have a good RS5

Hey Furb, Jason (t2rew)

How about you both entering the inter-club challenge for MRC, yes I know you don\'t have Drag cars but it would be real good to see a couple of Gen 2\'s out there and I bet they are quicker than a lot of other clubs cars :wiggle

well i would really love to put it on the strip, and probably will.... BUT.....

i still have some issues with the engine, my ignition is too weak and needs a hks twin power (which is on the way) so i dont produce any more power beyond 5krpm @ 14psi.
so this makes me have to shift very early and not really make a good ET.

but what the hell, ive seen some people run @ japshow and just know i will get a better launch :spank

As this will be my first Rotostock, can someone advise of the general arrangements.

On arrival I guess i say i\'m with this club, how will i find the stand etc, will someone be on hand to arrange parking near the stand ?
Can i leave the parked area to have a few runs on the strip ?

I\'m sure I seem like a sado, but I don\'t want to be the numpty in an RX7 not knowing what to do

Thanks (be kind)

Hi Chris

Have you bought your Rotorstock ticket yet? if not you have until 10.00pm tomorrow night to buy them at the discounted price otherwise you can pay on the day and I can reserve the stand pass for you.

With your ticket you will recive a stand pass that ensures you park your car on the Rotary club stand, - just follow all the other rotaries!!!  hopefully there will be a few hundred! and yes you will be able to leave the stand to go up the drag strip.

Don\'t worry mate, was wondering about those things myself!

Just one extra question, does anyone have (or have a link to) any more details on the camping? Or is it pretty much grab a spot and set yourself up?

If it\'s been raining anytime in the days running up to the event, try and get there early to nab a spot around the perimiter or the camping field.

The middle, is usually very muddy, bumpy and uneven.

Find a large Tesco supermarket once you land in the UK. Failing that there is one in Wellingborough - which is near Santa Pod (see below). Tesco are currently selling small, lightweight, sleeping bags - the sort that fit in a backpack for cycling - for under £4. (5-6 Euros?). That is less than the price of a packet of cigarettes, 4 litres of petrol etc etc so would not be a serious expense. (even for Grinder)

You\'ll be able to take them home because even Ryan Air allow you to carry some baggage. These aren\'t big and hardly weigh anything at all. They might, as far as I know, be crap sleeping bags but in every other respect they seem ideal!

Are we allowed to set up a autojumble style table? I have loads of FC bits to offload and RS5 is the ideal place.  Be nice to have a slot for a workshop or something ? plenty of people who need timing, TPS, or compression checks that can be carried out by a few of us.  I will bring pretty much all my spares so if anyone is having trouble or poor running cars then we can do our best to get them running nicely.  There will be decades worth of experience waiting to tap into.  What do you think?
I have the TPS lights and all the tools just need someone with the compression checker and timing gun. I will also bring a gazeebo in case of poor weather.

Hi Pete

Sounds like a good idea! - however, you will have take ownership of this and we will only allow one gazebo to be put up for this purpose and the stand will be where we see fit to go, otherwise we will fall foul of Santa Pod\'s trade stand rules.
