Title: Smoking
Post by: Fats on June 01, 2008, 09:25:13 PM
Got a problem I think?, I know FD\'s smoke on start up but I\'ve noticed that today mine started smoking when hot (85 degrees), Wouldn\'t smoke on boost but would only smoke when stop-starting, noticed it when I was moving into a parking space

If i rev\'d on the spot, when it come to idle after the a rev a puff of smoke would come out the exhaust, dunno if it\'s an engine oil seal that\'s fubar would have thought that smoking all the time would be seal failure, The Turbo has done 400 miles if that, its a t04s journal bearing turbo

Any ideas??

Difficult sussing this stuff down the internet but here\'s a couple of things to find out first,

Get somebody to rev it so you can smell this smoke that way you can work out if it smells of oil, water (you would smell anti-freeze) or fuel,

Not saying that it is but if it smokes on lift off then tubbie oil seals could be suspect (amongst others though!)

Mine have gone hence swapping new engine and turbos.  I can rev mine on the spot to say 3krpm and when I lift off I get a fair bit of smoke.  I have put the bung in for now till the car comes back as the increase in back pressure helps :)

It\'s doing my head in! Thing is you would think there would be plooms of smoke after boosting on overun not so much at light rev\'s at tick over

There is breathers on the FD but i\'ve only got the one fitted onto the throttle body at the mo

Right just confirmed the turbo is fecked, took of the air filter and there is excessive play (In and out not up and down), I\'m well Fu@ked off had it rebuilt before it was fitted by ITS turbo\'s and it\'s lasted a trip to carl\'s and one week of driving, Some normal and some aggressive:3gears-lh to be honest.

Now I need to find out why!!!, Boost has only been at 0.8 bar but I\'ve not been using a bov, BAD I know but i wouldn\'t have thought that would have killed the turbo that quick!

Im going to ring turbo technics tomorrow and get a qoute on the damage, Anyone had any dealings with these??

Mate thats crap news - I guess it\'s all out of warranty by now anyway?

Get a new one if you can or a low mile second hand one that you can check 1st for good shape.  Once they are rebuilt they usually seem like glass or go after 10k miles. Just quoting Tim there you understand ;)

Thats the thing I carn\'t find the invoice but there is a warranty sticker on the compressor housing, prob worth a phone call but they\'ll try and get round it some how!

I would have been happy if it would have made 10k miles, im not gonna tell tim he\'ll only take the **** Lol
