Hello all,
as you can guess i\'m new here and looking for my first RX fc3s. Ideally i\'d like a turbo II, but they are a little more expensive, is it worth getting a non-turbo though as they are a little cheaper ? I\'m going to be drifting it and want to tune it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Aka: is there a lot of BHP difference between turbo/ non turbo. Thanks in advance, Ben.

The N/A\'s put out 146bhp and turbo II\'s kick out around 200bhp which a further 50-70 can be added with a decent exhaust. Also the turbo can be upgraded

From the tuning perspective TII\'s are definately better, If you add enough power to the N/A you will be looking at going to TII drivelines etc.

anyhu welcome to mrc :D

If you are going to drift with it then you need to get the turbo and they are just as cheap as the EGI\'s.  You will find that tuning with even the basic mods can get you huge gains and you should get up to FD standard fairly easy.  Brakes are better, gearbox is better, overall you will be able to get the cars power down for drifting.  There are lots you can do with the EGI, the engine will probably last longer but its personal choice and money will obviously sway you one way or another.

well you have several choices, if you know your stuff about Rx7\'s then buy something cheap and do it up but i would be swayed to go for JDM rather than UK.  Not many UK ones left that have not been attacked by the \'\'RUST\'\' !!  Go for a later S5 so at least a 1989 onwards (G reg and up), these have more horse power, better engines and turbo.
If you know not a lot about RX7\'s then I think you really should, especially if you are going to hammer them on a drift circuit.  You can buy a run of the mill TII from £800 up to 3K for one with a rebuilt or very low mileage.  If I was in your shoes I would go for a really cheap one with a good engine and spend the money to get the car suited to your needs.  I recently sold a TII engine for £600 so engines can be bought for relatively good money compared to a rebuild ( £2000-£3500), it had also been rebuilt by mazda at some point.  With your car for drifting its important to get not only a good engine and turbo but a solid car suspension wise.  You can uprate all the bushes to poly for about £70 (USA).  The TII comes with 16" alloys on a 7J so not bad choice for drifting with the right tyres.  Just have a few hours reading on this forum or go to Rx7club.com as between the two sites you will get all the info you will ever need.

BenRX,
My \'90 TurboII might be for sale in a few weeks. It\'s interior is stripped out (still available), lowered springs, poly bushed, monster 3" exhaust, induction kit, stage 1 chip, MBC etc etc. Probably pushin out about 250bhp, possibly more. So as you can see it would make an ideal drift car. Let me know if you might be interested.

Cheers,
Nick

PS. Full MOT, 6mths tax.

Is this on a standard ECU ? If it is I have an ECU that will plug and play and give you some more reliable horses.
