After all the stories about keeping under bonnet temps down and seeing the heat rising in traffic, I\'ve been looking at vented bonnets.
Trouble is, I\'m not one for lairy looks, so need a subtle bonnet which will still get rid of the hot air.

That sort of thing is the one I\'m thinking about, would go for a GRP item as I\'d have it painted to match the car.
Anyone have this style or something similar? Did it make any difference?
think thats a feed one, supposed to be very good at lowering temps. there was a craze of folk extending their bonnet hinges to allow hot air out but i read somewhere else this didn\'t help, at speed created a pressure gradient that stopped hot air escaping, dunno why the feed one works though? no expert!
Nice bonnet....i had an old scoot rep on mine....it was a little lairy, but worked really really well.
Yeah Ash, I know of some with the hinges kicked up, that was another option if all else failed.
The scoot one would look out of place on mine as the bodywork is 99% stock. Really need something that looks just "Standard +" if you get me.
This would be about as lairy as I could go I reckon, even then it\'s pushing it.

Unless you plan on getting a full kit at some point, my personal prefernece is for the feed one. you posted first.
I have an RE Amemiya AD9 on mine and it looks sweet but if your body is stock it\'ll look out of place.
Get the Feed one or a good copy of it. Shineautoproject do that bonnet AFIAK.
i have the same problem mate infact i have nearly identical car just wheels in black. big fan of the feed bonnet though does any1 know if it comes in GRP
the feed bonnet works very well for lowering temps i had a carbon one on mine, really wish i never sold it now:mad:
I had mine from shineautoproject in the states, very good quality fit too, and they do carbon or frp.

I\'ve seen copies up for sale on Rotaryart, can get them in GRP too.
Don\'t have the link to hand at the moment though, might be worth a look Danny.
I\'ve got an AD9, but i don\'t like what it does to the lines of the car. I\'ll be testing it vs a stock bonnet with my V-mount, and if temps are the same/similar, the stock one will be going on..
If not, then i\'ll be trying to get hold of the one you listed and spraying it up body colour.
Maybe a good one would be Chargespeed from SRB Power ..

Carbon looks nutz on red cars. Have you thought about these ones? It stands to reason the more vents the better the cooling properties. The best bonnet i have found for venting is the Scoot or Knightsports whilst driving followed by the RE-A AD9 when standing still.
i\'ve got the 2nd one lightening posted, in carbon and my cars red. It looks great if you ask me! Keeps the temps down and you can really hear the turbos spooling up, make it sound like a jet engine!

P.S this is not my car
I\'m not sold on the carbon/red thing, not on an otherwise standard car. Will always look like it\'s a work in progress to me.
The second one down isn\'t too bad, but the lines just don\'t seem to complement the RX7s. First one I posted is still my favourite to be honest.
Has anyone ever done anything custom with their bonnets? Made up their own vents etc?
If you like the FEED one then speak to Andy Smee as he did a group buy on those a while back and has one on his FD :D
Adam
feed all the way bud, you only rely notice the vents from a side view or in the car, lowers the temps really well as when moving the air goes in via the fron n pushed through the vent at the top, when yer in the car you cn see the amount of heat pouring out lol
heres mine :)

Think it\'s gonna have to be that one then.
Cheers guys.

Hi Ash,
Here is my personal favorite the Seibon TS,
Not cheap but like with all Seibon product it will fit properly and is not to be confused with the rubbish on sale that "nearly fits" !
You would probably also find because of the finish you would change your mind about painting,
pictures can be found on post number 8 on this thread

Yeah, but shineautoproject have a good copy of them up for $500

Plus shipping + Customs Duty = alot for something thats just "good".
Would rather hold out and pay for authentic feed than spend 3/4 of the money on a "good" copy.
There is a genuine RE:A AD9 due to be arriving in the fir sale section very, very shortly ;)
I think a lot of the bonnets suggested are lovely - on the right car. I don\'t think mine has enough bodywork styling to suit something that looks like it\'s been moulded from a Klingon\'s forehead :rolling

They have the FEED replicas there, sub £1000.
Yeah I heard that too. Depends if you want low weight or low temps I guess
Well I think those two big holes should let a bit of heat out !! :D
I think you could get quite creative and totally unique by modding your own stock bonnet. They are all ali so ridicously light weight and will save you at least £500 by modding your own. I personally would like to keep the bonnet subtle without too many vents and stuff, but it must also be highly efficient.

That second one i imagine has the best functionality from all the above for intake temps.
Yeah, bet his intake temps are ice cold!
Quite like the first of those custom bonnets too, but without the hole at the top in the middle.
That bottom one is what I\'m planning on doing with mine, when I get it!!
Jono
cool!! id like to have a go at a custom bonnet lol, but yeah loving the bottom one!! WOOHOO!!
Have just been talking to Gurj about his old matt black FD, had a Mazdaspeed replica bonnet on there which I like the look of, anyone know where you can get hold of these?

I can the real ones, but they arent cheap. I\'ve got feed bonnet and it works really well, definately the best looking IMHO.

Definitely has the right curves.

If you PM iaint he has a used bonnet simalar to this one
It\'s similar but not the same, more rounded and looks higher, vent is forward on the bonnet too.
