Title: knightsports ecu
Post by: rx7ben on May 29, 2008, 06:57:29 PM
Hi all im new to the club.

I bought a  1993 rx7 Type R about5 weeks ago witch blow up the first night i had it. Since then ive had allmost evrything replaced by roetecnics. It has a knightsports ecu on it and i have the knightsports boost controler with it the thing is the car stinks of fuel when running, im shaw it must be runing really rich alltho it does have a straight threw exhaust. Allso the car doesnt feel as quick as i thought it would. Its not standard it has a Knightspiorts ecu and  intercooler, airfilter staight threw exhaust and lightend flywheel so i would of thought it would of felt quite quick. Could these thing be due to the ecu not set up propaley and needs ajusting or what about the boost could it be turned down to much.

any help would be great

If its a Knightsports unit you need to send it back to them with ful spec of the car so they can readjust it for you. If its just been imported then its set up to run a Japanese ron fuel which i higher than V Power over here.

Other than than you best bet is fitting a Apex\'i Power FC which would be i direct replacement. Also there are many more places in the UK that can Map a PFC so if you make more changes in the future it will be easier to re map

Knightsport run a "closed loop" set up. You need their software to open it. So in short no.

Sounds like you might be running the engine in atm ?  If so, don\'t forget that Rotechniks turn the boost right down for the run-in.  If the Knightsport ECU doesn\'t take that into account, then that may be why it\'s over-fueling (if it is).  Maybe wait for the run-in to complete and the boost set back up, then retest?  (i know my car felt a bit quicker once i finished run-in)

Not saying your wrong by any means but roetecniks never told me that thay turn the boost down when rebuilding a engine  he never exsplained that when running threw the runin.

Hmmm - he mentioned it to me, and like i say - mine certainly felt quicker after the post-runin service...

Also, you it sounds like you\'re on the standard twins, so even with the uprated intake and straight-through exhaust, your bros\' scooby is probably either equal power, or making a bit more than you.

Lastly, a lot of the rotary power kicks in at the higher-revs, which you shouldn\'t be hitting on the run-in - when you\'re in the 1.5k-3.5k range, the car is (comparatively!) sluggish...

Note: all the above is just my own observations with my car, and bits that i have read on these forums- hopefully one of the more experienced folks on here will be able to confirm/correct as appropriate ;)

If it is 1993 it is 255bhp from factory. The types are just trim levels type r i think the lowest. Only the post 1999 had 280bhp.
Scoobs are geared low for quick accelaration they useless at maintaining high speeds as standard, but very quick at low speeds.
The car will be quicker at the end of the runin as the compression goes up. Depending on whever you had housing changed this could be 500 or 1000 miles ish.

What\'s a PFC and commander for a 95 type RB GONNA SET ONE BACK THESE DAYS?
aM THINKING THIS SHOULD BE ONE OF THE NEXT PURCHASES AFTER RUNNING HER FULLY IN ETC....

Then it\'s gotta be installed setup and mapped, right?!

TTFN pHIL.

ps: excuse the CAPS, only just reaised after typing the post..... #;o)

Hello RX7ben

Welcome to the club

Ditch the ECU and get your self the Apexi PFC As jm-garage says Apexi will be a direct replacement.  It will be the best mod you will ever spend your dosh on !!!!

If you need a really good map go and see Kerim at Powergains Motor Sport here in London (RX7 specialists).  Many of us here (on this site in London) use the above company.

I had a rebuild done by the above company and they have looked after my car for 2 years now. Rotechnics are very good but also very pricey; I am not sure how good they are at modifying the cars and mapping them

Power Gains Motor Sport will be much, much cheaper.  Legendary Jay Dee will map / tune your car

Well mapped twin turbo with decent mods will trash Type R – I have on more then one occasion..  (Running around 350BHP on 0.92 boost)

You should defo get a kick at around 3k revis and another at around 5k revs. The kicks are quite substantial so if you are not feeling that then something is wrong with your turbo set up / map

Regards,
Michaelb

I am really pleased with the car, yesterday on private road I slaughtered the new Audi TT, mind you also bare in mind that the car is much lighter with no cat and air pump...the cat is huge and weighs a ton

The car is really nippy and no turbo lag so perfect for street use if you get my drift..

Powergains Motor Sport post code is RM4 1HE and Kerim\'s number is 07903758249, best you call him and pop down to have a chat - the man loves to talk RX7s you can also get a quote for the work

Mention polish Michael - Kerim will look after you and no I am not on commission - the guy is a genius..

Michaelb
