Hi everyone. I know its not a rotary but what do you think of the new nissan GTR? Me personaly thinks it looks hideous but am impressed with how fast it went round the ring; 7minutes 38seconds! I`ve seen a few fds on utube doing sub 8min laps but want to know what a standard fd would do it in. Did Mazda ever test the rex round the ring? What is the fastest ever lap for an fd? I keep saying im going but keep putting it off, just like Goodward, better start savin`! cheers:burnout
Me and a few others went to the Ring about 3 weeks ago ... My friends Rex went round in about middle/low 9 minutes and that is on standard twins ... FMIC ... but he knows the ring and all the corners .. this advantage will gain you a good 2 or 3 minutes overall to someone who doesnt know in the same car.
We are organising another trip in sep possibly the weekend of the 13/14th . if you are interested in coming ...
A 7 min 38 sec lap is fast ..... the record is around 6 min 40 i think from a Ultima GTR .
Err not sure where you get the idea an Ultima has done a 6:40?? Certainly wouldnt be on road tyres!
The Fastest lap is a 6.11 done by Stefan Bellof in a Group C Porsche 956, so to get that close.....hmmm
Hopefully planning a trip there ourselves this year...plan is to conquor the 8min mark!
Just as a matter of interest how many of you drive your FD\'s to the ring? I\'ve only been once a very long time ago and I trailored my car at the time (mr2 turbo) there just incase.
I think i would do the same if I took one of my FD\'s there...?
Max and I always drive there, never had any probs.

If Max can manage it in his 1200+kg silver car with 375hp, I\'m sure you wont have any problems in the new beast(s) Jon!
i think we need to get a rx7 convoy to the ring going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would be well up for that
Sure i read out there somewhere that it was an Ultima .. As in normal street car and not a rally or Tourning car . ohh well German beer is stronger and who knows !
My mate drove his Rex over there .. and i am driving mine there in Sep .
All are welcome to join details will be on UKDE.co.uk soon .. probably be the 13/14th sep .. that weekend ... maybe leave on the friday .. and come back on the tuesday .
I\'m going on September 15th, not sure yet if I\'ll take the Rex, would mean flying back, driving the car here, probably keep it with me for a month and then take it back to the UK.
If I am up there when the rest of you are around, I\'ll be sure to look you up.
And yes, German beer is ace. Had rather a funny evening wandering around the countryside after a session up there. :rollin
I\'ll be there in August with the Rex if it\'s not sold by then :)
Me and carl went over last june. We both drove our fd\'s over with no problems with either. Quite a relaxing drive really as you dont get ancle ache on ya right foot like you do on a lot of other cars. Would love to go this year but ive got a million other things to buy so it\'s gonna be next year for me now.
im up for the ring this year

Are you thinking of th Radical SR8 (6m:55s)?
We are looking to combine ours with a trackday there. It is getting too difficult to predict whether the cars will make it on with their new rules, so if we do a trackday the day before a Tourist day, then at least if they say no....we havent wasted the grand it costs to do the weekend.
My brother and I will be going for a fourth year this July.
We\'re taking in a race on the Nordschleife too as we\'ve never seen professionals at it.
Every year, bar last year mine being on a trailer (more hassle than it was worth), we\'ve driven our Rex\'s there, no problems. Just avoid the ring road around Brussels as the bluddy concrete surface will have you climbing the B posts with the noise it makes.
First year, standard FD (mazdaspeed shocks on the rear, that was about it), 9mins 07 seconds, and I wasn\'t pushing mentally nor did I know the track other than by PS2. Haven\'t beaten that time yet as I keep crashing..
:Grrr
Pretty sure a standard FD in Sabine\'s hands would do low 8 minutes.

Lol, I hear that! Holy ****, how could they make a road surface so annoying11! 888\'s make it even more pleasant :2Rolleyes
Thank gawd I had it on a trailer last year then, I have them on the rear !!
Road gets even worse in the rain, bring on the sweeping roads of the Eiffels anyday !
Roll on July !!! :Santa
I\'ve heard noise is a BIG problem this year...any of you guys know how loud your cars are?
96.5 for me....is it even worth me going?
94Db for us...so no worry with that!

what are you using to get that? I have a FEED Sonic mid-pipe which apparently has a reputation for being one of the quiet ones, and a Racing Beat twin-round exit tail pipe.
to be honest i could do with it being under 95....loud cars are for the young! i just want to get on as many tracks as possible...
I took my Rex last year, but the cost of getting it there and back pi**ed me off. Last year was £250 on fuel. Hate to think what is costs now. Add Shuttle costs etc and it really builds up
Went in April this year for two days evening lapping. Flew RyanAir cattle classs for £50 and hired a rent a racer at : http://www.rent-racecar.de/gb/.
I would do it again rather than risk my pride and joy on the armco.
Only down side.... Wreck the racecar and you pay the first 8000 euros !!
PS. Dont go to the Ring. It\'s highly addictive automotive crack and will lead to your financial ruin as you will want to keep going more often..LOL

Max was there the other week and had no problems at all, I\'d be surprised if his is sub-96, very. Its rather a case of pot luck tho, depends whos in the carpark. Try and be conspicuous and take a bung or some other method of quietening if you know you\'re border-line. Or get some thing quieter :)

True story!
This will be my 10th year
And at one point I would be taking customers there 7 times a year! And at times doing 35 laps a day!!
Its at least £1k for me to trailer the racecar over once youve taken every thing into account.
Its our own exhaust and made to our spec, which is why it is so quiet!!
I find (touching massive amounts of wood here) that they tend to target the motorcycles due to the higher pitched whine at full tilt, rather ferrari V8 than hemi V8. Saying that I\'ve been so scared of being thrown off in recent years I\'ve taken a variety of silencers to stuff in my exhaust as it\'s 5" at the back and 3" all the way from the turbos. Never had to use one yet, again touch wood. I just creep up at minimum speed to and through the toll gate.
With what did you measure your dB level ? I could do with knowing as I want to do a few track days in the UK.
Cheers.
I\'m considering getting a silenced mid-pipe before i go just to make sure.

i wouldn\'t bother going if you don\'t...i doubt you\'d get one lap, or even through the gate!

Is this something you manufacture, or have manufactured for you? Is it a one-off?
To be quieter and not have to worry about places like Bedford, Goodwood and the \'ring i am quite prepared to get another pipe. I\'d need to map it and lose a few BHP i guess but what the hell, its for use on all tracks, not the dwindling list of ones i can get on.
Noise issues are here to stay and whinging about them won\'t help.
Details, prices? Full system, etc?
cheers
Andy
They are something we have manufactured for us.
They are repackable and so if you find the noise is getting too much, whip off the end plate and reajust the packing.
Look in our section under exhausts.

I would be up for that.. I am going to be out there for a week from the 13th June (less than two weeks!), would be good to see some other RX7s out there

Exhaust isn\'t "that" loud, measued just over 95db at 1/2 throttle so it would be touch and go whether or not they would let me on.
But for £170 for the mid-pipe might as well get it fitted for piece of mind.
I\'m getting a powerflow silencer welded into my midpipe tomorrow..
