Hello,
What was the real-world fly bhp of the standard FD (1995)? I know the official Jap spec was 255bhp (237 for UK).
The reason I\'m asking is that I had this email (below) from somebody trying to sell their 1995 RS as 300+bhp standard, seemed very suspect to me. I thought the 95 RS was just a suspension/brake change from the standard car rather than any engine related difference.
Jon.
email> we all know that a japanese spec vehicle is always higher in bhp than the officially released figures, due to japanese car laws they are not allowed to produce cars with excessive horsepower, due to emission rules and regs, they are always less than in reality. The TYPE RS in this case is a proven 300+BHP car from new, these figures were produced in Japan after the release of the FD third gen engines in 1992 when the engine upgrades were added to the better higher graded cars such as the type RS gen 3 like the one we have. The extra hp on the type rs was not achieved by turbos or exhausts but by more advanced mapping techniques as their tech improved in Japan.
bull, all RX7s up until the 99spec had 255, they all had the same ECUs up until 95 8 bit that had the same map, then 16 bit with the same map.
99 they had upgraded turbos and other mods, more boost to produce 280 on manual cars and 265 on autos.
Thanks BlitzBoy,
Was the 255bhp specification for the 1995 cars fairly accurate?
Jon.
yep I have had my old RX and a mates Rx on a dyno years ago both stock at the time , mine was a type R 92, his was a 95, I dynoed at 207 at the wheels and him 210 at the wheels which is all around 255 to 260 at the fly.
Type R,RS,touring etc were all different in their option levels eg interior, seats, one or two oil coolers.
The RZ was the only model before 99 that you could say had a performance advantage due to its different weight, final drive, better brakes, suspension
There are performance upgrades from 1/96 above that of earlier models. 16 bits afforded 10bhp and 10lb/ft torque extra over 8 bit. rats nest changed to solenoids. Bigger brakes, better suspension. 17" wheels.

Them be optionals.
i was also wondering the true figures as i had a little play with a mate who has a pretty much standard car but is boosting to 0.9bar and he can keep up quite well :(

Funny you should post that, mine is a standard 2000 RS which is supposed to have a 12-10-12psi pattern but the boost gauge gets up to 14psi, always wondered why.
What controls the max boost? Or maybe the gauge is inaccurate, its the standard one fitted on the 99-cars.
