Thinking of buying a GT35R turbo kit with a T4 flange with .86 a/r. Is the flange and the 86 a/r good enough as i have no idea about them, thanks.
Depends on the rest of your engine spec, porting etc, what performance you want from the car and what power you want. A/R is relative to turbo lag. The smaller the A/R the more heat is generated but the quicker the spool-up.
Its a street ported engine with all engine mods. I suppose as much power as poss so is the T4 flange with .86 a/r good enough, thanks.
I suppose as its only a weekend car and never used on the track top end is not the issue.
For street use you want quick spool. Should be fine with that i reckon. Might want to go bigger if you want more a little more power or have heat problems.
Go for at least the 1.06. A street port will overwhelm a smaller A/R.

Agree completely Shaun,
Some 7 or 8 years ago when there were only a couple of single Turbo FD\'s here in the U/K and we were all trying to learn what you could and couldn\'t do I had an engine loose a tip due to having to small a bum.
This was because the engine could not scavenge out the hot mixture then the resulting chamber super heated and in turn made a tip "grow" which then come into contact with an end plate,
game over !.
Defo go with a 1.06A/R mate.
On a street ported engine, lag will not be an issue!
Thanks for the help.
Hmmm looks like i have been miss-informed ah well we live and learn.
defo with a ported engine you want the bigger ar on gt35r. Go smaller if non ported
We ran a standard GT3540 0.63/0.7 for the last 3 years of racing as do Brunswick. Our engines were running quite large ports too.
The turbo never suffered from lag, they were superb for track work.
How much are you buying these for?
You can choose from either 0.63, 0.82 or 1.06 we sell ours for a club price of £767.60
If you make the wrong decision and feel it isn\'t working you can always change the hotside...it will cost you around £220

The GT3574 is a different animal dude. I\'m running a 0.84 A/R because of stock ports and its a larger turbo and plain bearing. The GT35r is a different animal.
Shaun
Aha so i was right, sort of :p
Have to use a lower A/R to get similar results to the BB turbos.

Out of interest is this an RB core Gt35 or the plain bearing?
at a guess i would say plain journal bearing
Which one is the best GT35R or Garrett T04Z for street use . My engine is just being run in and then i might go single and one of those two will be my choice.
If street use only on standard porting then GT35R.

Yes the GT35 uses Roller Bearings
And yes it is certainly better than the T04z for the street, in fact unless the ports are big I would say it is better for the track too.
Can you get hold of plane bearing turbo\'s for a good price?
Technically its a ball bearing, not roller bearing! :)

Actually if we are being anal....

then the GT35 runs with Journal bearings....as the \'R\' denotes the use of ball bearings. ;)
But as the original title says GT35r then yes it is a Ball bearing :)
And the only ones I can get are these ones, there are some cheaper imported US ones that are running the journal bearings.
hehe, good call!
