Goodwood dont think Ive missed one yet!
They dont really do \'stands\' or car clubs there, more advertising stuff and
race car groups/clubs as opossed to vehicle make clubs.
However \'Mazda\' had thier own trade exhibits and models inatendence
last year there was a thread on this if you search back, with a few members
cars on display as guest\'s.
Sunday times normally do the free tickets for the friday, but weekend is inadvance only I think.

which is the best day?

Do they have specific events on specific days?  like the hill climb, or exotic car procession on particular days?

I\'m going on the Sunday. Probly be on the bike, though, the cozzers close all the entry roads but one and the traffic is UNFCKNBLVBLE! Backfired three years ago when we had torrential thunderstorms mid-afternoon, I had to pour about six inches of rainwater out of my helmet where it was locked to the front wheel all day! Doh! They do have club stands for certain marques, not sure if it\'s by invite or application, though. My mate had his R33 GTR on the GTR Owners Club stand a few years back. Sunday is the day when all the celebs are guaranteed, though many are around on the Saturday, too. Sunday is the proper timed hillclimb runs, though. Definitely a day not to be missed, standing ten feet from a donutting F1 car is not an experience you can have every day!

I\'ll be there on Saturday and Sunday but if it rains like last year i will be mainly in the GRRC members marquee

RedRummy the format is pretty much the same all three days with each group of cars getting two runs up the hill, however the air displays vary and some of the drivers only turn up for one day, Sunday is usually the best attended day, friday used to be quiet until the Times started giving away tickets, but dont think they are this year. if you look on the Goodwood website it will show you who\'s there on what day. this is a ticket in advance only event and they sell out every year. I have been every year since 1998 and when I can I go for 3 days, day one get the lie of the land, day two spent at the fence outside the drivers club getting autographs and day three watch the action and try and see anything i didnt get round to yet - yes it is that BIG.

You\'re joking: my capability for serial stupidity knows no bounds! :D I had a mesh vented jacket that day as well, and it and my leathers were also locked to the bike, cos the queue for the helmet and kit lockers looked too long when we arrived. I don\'t think I could\'ve been wetter if I\'d ridden home through a lake! We sought shelter by Goodwood House and were told by an extremely polite footman-type flunky that only people with VIP passes could shelter from the thunderstorm in the portico to the House, but we were welcome to use one of the French Window vestibules further along! Never been so nicely reminded of my pikey pleb status in all my life! :Giggle

Met Colin Schiller, who created the original version of Fast Bikes magazine there, he was due to ride the hub-centre steered Vyrus/Bimota crossover thing up the hillclimb, but some kind punter had stolen his leathers and he was facing the prospect of hillclimbing an unfaired, one-only-in-the-world prototype priceless litre V-twin up the hill in rain like stair-rods dressed only in shorts and a sleevless T-shirt! Not a happy bunny!

But tall tales aside, it is a TOP day out, you simply cannot get the same experience anywhere else. Even if rotaries are thin on the ground, lol (though I did see an early LeMans style thing go up the hill one year). The breadth and variety of talent and vehicles is astounding, some so rare they literally come out of museums just for the one weekend. They use them as they should be used, too, irrespective of their worth. For example, some of the Honda six-cylinder 250 bikes have an operational lifespan left to them that is literally measured in minutes, but you wouldn\'t think it to see an inscrutable Honda mechanic warming one up at 17000 rpm! It was worth the admission fee just to see the kid stood immediatley behind the exhausts just descend into utter terror and burst into tears when they started it, he obviously didn\'t twig that the only other people within 20 yards were all wearing ear defenders! You couldn\'t hear it, it was too loud, you just sort of feel it through your whole body!

Might pack the ol\' waterproofs this year, though, just in case. British summer and all that!

Yeah - was there last year (for the friday, iirc) - very impressed seeing the older cars doing the hill-climb (especially fun watchin the steam-cars doin the hill-climb... although they mighta been faster if they was hooked to a stenna stairlift :D)

I\'m very tempted to go this year too - although i want to find a better spot for takin photo\'s - got some good ones last year http://photo.mentalspace.co.uk/viewGallery?reqYear=2007&reqGalName=[2007-06-22]%20Goodwood (http://photo.mentalspace.co.uk/viewGallery?reqYear=2007&reqGalName=%5B2007-06-22%5D%20Goodwood) but they are a bit \'static\' - more reference shots than action shots...

Can I ask the people who\'ve been before if its worth buying a Grandstand ticket or not ? £47 vs £82, I dont mind paying the extra if its worth it.

Cheers

Back on topic - Grandstand Ticket

Helps keep you dry if it\'s raining, but if your first time and only going for one day, there is so much to see you may not spend much time in your seat! It is also worth considering that in effect the festival is now somewhat split as many of the rally cars can only be seen on the rally course and do not go up the hill. There are platforms, without seats, that are tierred that you can stand on for free - think old style football terrace. at the end of the day it\'s personal choice. If you have paid for a seat you may not be so tempted to wander about, which is a shame as there is a lot to see (more than a days worth TBH).

I think Sunday and Saturday are pretty much the same for action and celebrity drivers and that, as was said before. The traffic is like no other traffic jam you\'ve ever been in by nine in the morning. The local Dibble try to control it by making some roads one way and faffing about, but they only seem to make it worse, somehow. I\'ve only gone by car once, I always take the bike now, cos I just can\'t be doing with the traffic getting in and out. Take sunblock and an umbrella, I always seem to get sunburnt and soaked to the skin. I\'ve never bought a Stand seat, I think they\'re too expensive for what you get. A large part of the attraction is that you can wander around the paddocks at touching distance from the machines and drivers, you\'d miss out on all that if you were sat in a seat all day. It\'s a bit of a hike off to the woods for the rally stage if that\'s of interest to you, too, so you probably wouldn\'t get much use out of your very expensive seat. Can be very crowded on the Sunday to the point were the bridge over the track takes, like 5 minutes to cross because of all the people on it! Saturdays are generally a bit quieter, but still mad busy

I haven\'t got my ticket yet (fingers crossed theres still some left on Monday) but if I do manage to get one, I\'ll be trying to get there for 7 ish :D

Gives me time to:
*) get a parking spot in one of the closer car parks
*) scope out the course, and try to find a better spot for the camera than last year
*) have a short snooze before the action starts

I would also seriously recommend comfy shoes and a folding chair - there is a lot of walking to do (if you want to see everything inc rally), and the good spots don\'t have any seating :D

Blimey! There\'s forward planning! I\'ll most likely be wearing whichever T-shirt comes out of the drawer first, and I\'ll be lucky if it\'s not got any holes in it! :D

I do tend to wear my ludicrous sun-hat in the hope of more sun than rain, but it has got a F*rd Racing logo on it (oh, the shame!) so feel free to come and abuse me for that, anyone! Make sure it\'s me first, though and not some innocent F*rd fan lol!

I\'m off to this on the Saturday with about 10 of my forum members (//www.ukde.co.uk) - Like already said above this is one of the best shows in the season... plus they\'ve got the Fuari there (Confirmed too) :D and i aint missing that for ****.... looking forward to seeing it in the paddock too, where I guess i\'ll see most you :D - I\'m gonna go on the blag to get a seat in it!!! don\'t know if you don\'t ask!!

A chair is a must here as there is plenty to walk around and a sit down is needed after a while or can be a very long and tyring day, plus if your trying to get pics and you and mates have chairs you can spread yourselves about at the front and have more room and less backs of peoples heads in the shot...

Some F1 drivers will be there to (mostly Sunday) and also the JPS Turbo F1 car :D:D:D

** Lewis Hamilton, British F1 star and serious title contender, will attend on the Sunday of the event and drive his McLaren-Mercedes MP4-23 F1 race car.
** Damon Hill, former F1 Champion, will drive a replica of his father Graham’s Indy 500-winning Lola T90 ‘Red Ball Special’ on Friday.
** Sir Stirling Moss, arguably Britain’s greatest-ever driver, will be in action in a 1958 Vanwall.
** Jenson Button, star driver for Honda Racing F1, will drive the Honda RA107 on Saturday and Sunday.
