Post by: sickboy2345 on May 26, 2008, 08:07:20 PM
as above..

basically i got really nice aftermarket steering wheel and want to replace my standard one. The thing is that i don\'t have a horn in my old one so i dont know how to wire this new one, trhere is two cables sticking out but i have no clue what they need to be connected to...(maybe you got some pics?)

and if you can give me some tips how to change it, and what to be careful with..

thanks alot!

One this is not to change it late a night like i did, you\'ll end up pressing the horn loads of time and really annoying your neighbours! But the change it quite easy TBH

i can help very simple
1 under the steering wheel there will be a screw undo that phillips one that allows the horn cover to be removed
2 lift of cover and undo the nut holding the wheel on but make sure your wheels are straight before you do this .
undo the nut till about 90 % has been undone then hit the steering wheel towars your self and itll come free but it wont hit you in the face because you left the nut attatched
4 without broken nose the wires coming from the car will be possitive and earth out through the steering rack tap them on the metal you ll hear the horn beep
5
connect correct wire new boss and bolt wheel back in

My FD had just a single wire going to a plastic ScotchBlock connector on the indicator cancelling ring assembly. I just had to ground the metal spring of the horn button unit to the metal of the boss for an earth, and used crimp connectors to re-use the ScotchBlock from the original Mazda steering wheel horn wire on the new one. Other than that, exactly as Batman said, but with the addition that his trick of leaving the nut on the splines when you bash the old wheel free is a REALLY good idea that I wish I\'d known about before I did mine... for obvious reasons
