Title: speedo
Post by: GaseJo on May 24, 2008, 04:36:15 PM
Hi all,

My speedo does not work neither does my trip meter on my 94 FD. I have no speed reading on my Turbo Timer or Commander either. Has anyone any idea what this could be?

Cheers Garith.

I know on my FC when my speedo stopped working that it was just the speedo cable that had come loose from the gearbox. Perhaps get under the car and check the back of the gearbox to see if this cable is connected. I know that this is for an FC, but im sure its probably the same for an FD, if the cable is connected correctly in at the gearbox end it might be a loose connection behind the dial. The speedo cable is a mechanical cable with a toothed cog at the end, if this comes loose or out of place the speedo won\'t work.

Hi m1tch,

I think on a FD it is electrical as everything seems to run from the ECU (Not sure though)

they do suffer with dry joints on the circuit boards

Don\'t the FDs suffer from failing guages cause the circuit boards dry out or something? I just found this, but I dunno if it will help:

Hi Mitch,

I have read a few threads on this. The only reason i think it might be something else is i am not getting any speed readings on the commander & my turbo timer which are connected to the ECU & not the gauge circuit boards.Thats why i thinking it might be the speed sensor.

Cheers Garith.

Hi all,

Just fitted another speedo went for a drive and still no speed reading!!!!!

I know there is a connection plug up behind the glove box for the instrument cluster and of course the speed signal thingy on the gearbox. Is there any other connections or fuses for the speedo????

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers Garith.
