hey guys great forum i am a bit new to these cars and readin these threads is realy helpin alltho i am still stuck firstly the cars an imported 92 fd got pan speed ecu and a k and n panel air filter the rest is standard i think problems i am having are...no boost at all....high idle just over 1200 rpms...little bit low oil pressure...dosent want to pull at all when driving .the things i have checked are the rats nest pipes changed plugs and  oxygen sensor as the wire had come off and physicaly checked that the turbos do work (took the short silicon conector off the y pipe when running and air comes wooshing out) and done a compression check all seems even..when i unplug the air pump the rpms drop right down but still dosent help maters thought id just ask if thats normal whilst i am here.other than these problems car starts fine and ticks over fine i just cant drive it:Grrr hope som one can put all this together and help me :Hammercheers again

id say the boost issues will be either a vac hose loose. checkvalve knackerd or a duff solonoid :)

funny you should say that mr interloper there is a check valve that goes to the pressure tank i cant blo thru it one way but i can a little bit the other way should these be free flowing or should there be some resistance cheers for the fast reply dood

they only work 1 way bud, so thats right what your saying lol, have u checked the oil levels? is there any addictional gauges install? ie boost, oil pressure lol?

check valve might be ok then just its hard to blo thru in the dirrection i should be able to blo through it, i am  thinkin it should be easy one way and not at all the other way? only got a boost/vac gauge  get good vac but no boost gauge  dosent go above 0  and have changed oil and filter standard pressure gauge ses 4 ish wen cold then drops to near nuthin when warm.

where abouts are u based bud? maybe worth foning a tuner n book it in? the boost probs there maybe a million posts on here about it lol, its a common problem.. id check the solonoids n check valves first, then onto the hoses, i just replaced all mine on ma last rex n it sorted it cus sometimes you`ll never see the split one.. not a hard job, just teedius, i kinda enjoyed it to be honest :P

First of all,
 Hello and Welcome to MRC,

Do you have any kind of boost gauge on the car to tell you what is going on ?

One very common way to loose total boost other than the connector you have already checked is the lower pipe on the intercooler,

It may well look O/K on the car but you need to take this off and pull it about to check for splits to make sure properly,

Hope this helps

i am in wiltshire makes sense to get looked at by tuner, yea theres loads of answers about boost problems here read so much im confused lol. i took the upper inlet manifold off other day and there were 4 or 5 nackerd pipes i changed them and couldnt see any more split ones that did make a differnce but still no joy guess i gota pull it off and do the lot proper like...nice to know theres still hope cheers

hi clive cheers mate yea i got boost/vac gauge it shows vacum on tickover, wen i rev the engine the needle goes up to zero but not past zero gona check that intercooler pipe for splits ,sounds like i ought to take the lot  off see were my boost is goin!!!cheers

also check all the other intercooler pipes, sometimes the clamps are`nt that tight n you loose boost, when the engines running also listen under the bonnet n rev it and have a listen for a hisssing noise, if it hisses theres a vac leak :)

swaped  the check valve for a different one so i am now gettin  pressure to the pressure tank....still no boost if i pull away in 3rd the car dies ike its runing out of fuel if i pull away in 1st it mucks about and wont accelerate it also idles at about 1200 rpm if i unplug the airpump it ticks over at about 5 or 600 rpms anychace this is related?could it be a fuel issue?cant hear any hissing sounds comin from the rats nest or any were but gona give it full silicon monty just to be safe cheers for ur input guys

Ok, do you get any boost? (do you have an after market boost gauge)

Can you rev it (like 5-6 k) or does it splutter and die.

Have you taken all the boost pipes off, from the Throttle body to the Turbo and checked them all carfully? also while your there check the intercooler is still in one peice.

TBH your symptoms are very similar too i had a few years ago when my cat calopsed, i got no boost but it also would not rev and cut out if i tried to drive it. If you jack it up (with the engine off) and smack the cat quite hard does it rattle?

hi grizzly i get no boost, nuthin ,fa, ive got an aftermarket gauge i can rev car up to 5 or 6 if i am carfull, if i rev it suddenly or let off the throttle suddenly  it pops and spluters ive triple checked the pipes from airbox to turbo and from turbo to throttle body all seems well gona give the cat a bash tommorow see if it does rattle thanks for the clue

You are in the same county as Carl of Hayward Rotary.
