Am looking into getting a third gen rx7 at present and thought i\'d do my homework first (wish i had on my 200sx ).
Have seen loads of big power (400+) cars with standard boxes. Are they very strong as standard or are people changing boxes regularly?
Whats the max power available from the standard turbo\'s?
Are the standard front and rear brakes good as standard?
Also, what is the gearbox geared for top speed wise?
Any advice appreciated.
The standard boxes are good for upto 500 bhp, I think after that they start breaking? A gearbox brace will help make them last longer...
Max power on standard turbo is just over 400 but that is pushing them to the limit and you will go through turbos like anything lol... I\'d say 350 bhp on standard is on the border of reliable?
Standard brakes are very good as long as everything is working fine discs, pads, brake fluid, brake lines, brake cylinder etc...
Top speed with standard gearbox depending on your diff will be in the range of 160 - 170 I think?
The search button is your friend as this has been covered loads of times, plenty info on this forum
Thanks Kash :Thumbs-up
Blitzboy - Been searching for the last few eves (and lunchtimes) but have got no definate answers by putting in specific searches.
Would much appreciate it if you could point me to some of the threads where these are covered (in particular the gearbox ) as i\'m sure you\'re right being as there are so many tuned cars on here.
here is the link on how to find out up speed from the gearboxes

Another link on how fast and how much power people are pushing out on stock twins and the mods needed to support it in this link

And the standard brakes are good if working and serviced correctly as the RX7 was the fastest stopping production car in 1992.
See it only took me 5 minutes of searching lol
Max power on stock twins with all supporting mods done was 389rwhp, but normally 330rwhp is seen at safe boost levels
Thanks for that Blitzboy :Thumbs-up
Have you had any issues with your gearbox running that turbo or is it holding together well?
no had no probs at the mo, I have a Mazdaspeed powerplant frame which helps, but as I up the power to well past 500 its then when they break
What are the oil coolers like on the FD? I know the FC oil coolers run along the whole lengh of the bottom of the radiator and are rated to about 500 or so, what size are the FD coolers? I just thought I would ask :)
