As you can see from this picture i have made up a impression of the pipe i have running along the side of my exhaust system (in the black) and the arrows in the red poin to the other pipes which are also part of my exhaust system & was hoping someone could advise me on what to do with these pipes as i removng the cat so should I keep them, chop them completely or just block of the ends, hope you understand what i am getting at, thanks James
is your the egi or the turbo ??
on my turbo II i just removed the pipe from the rubber pipe by the turbo and left it venting to air
if an EGI - i assume you can cut off it pretty close to the engine ?
Oh yer good point, sorry forget to mention my model of rx, it is an S5 n/a. So you reckon best to leave both venting the air??
S5 na - didnt realise they did them in the UK - most are S4 ( well all the ones i have seen has the s4 bumpers )
anyways .... :D - i think you can just cut it off somewhere - at the end of the day - it just passes the smoke out the back end - so i can assume it ok being passed out of the front end
brett is your person for this - but not seen him in a few days :(
Pretty sure mine is a S5 she was made in April 89\'?? Thanks for your help grinder, i\'ll jst leave them both breathing for now & hopefully get hold of brett soon.
yeah my EGI was a 1989 on a F ( i think ) and im sure it was a s4 ? but mine had a different exhaust i think and didnt have that extra pipe
its pretty rare to see a FC that still has one to be honest
Ha yer should have seen the amount a mechanics coming to have a look at "the extra pipe" all proper miffed!! I told them i believe it is some sort of a air cleaning system that pumps clean air back into the system to help emissions, is that right?
errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :D
on the TII it takes air from the air pump and pumps it into the exhaust at anything below 2000 rpm ( or summat like that ) - to keep the emmission down
not sure on the EGI though - never really had a good look underneath one with the pipe still there !
still pumps clean air into the exhaust with or without a cat/turbo. It all helps dilute the nasty stuff down a bit. Must admit there Stu that all the cars I have broken have all been S5 1989 UK models but i have seen S4 Uk ones here only EGI and none for the turbo.
so how come the S5 EGI has the S4 bumper - i dont think i have seen a EGI with the same bumper as a TII - unless thats how they changed ???
There\'s no such thing as a UK S5 EGI.
Ha ok, mine must be an S4, someone told me it was an S5.
Right Exhaust is on..... bit too fecking loud!!!!!!
loud is good, thats the true spirit of an rx7........loud and fast.
it depends - i put a cat back 3 inch on - and that TOOOOOOOOOOOOO loud - took it off in the end
well my system is 3" throughout and tbh thats not that loud, well not from where i sit!! maybe the neighbours might tell me otherwise. What I did on mine was change the tail tips, in doing so it reduced the diameter at the outlet neck by about 1/4" and that was enough to take the edge of it. Cost me £80 for the exhaust tips but it worked for what i wanted out of it.
Ha not complaining at all lol just worried about all the attention it draws, when i open her up it is bloody loud but on half throttle she is controllerable!! But really love driving the car even more now, whilst she pops, bangs & splutters away, do many people experience big back blows as she is kicking out flames aswell lol its so much fun :chat:chat
Anyone know what the legal sound/decibel level of your exhaust can be, bit worried!?!
Well the noise limit limit is what your car is as standard but as the noise levels where never tested then it is at the discression of VOSA or Mot guy or old bill or CSO or winging neighbour etc etc etc :D
I see lol thanks pal!
