Title: oh bugger....
Post by: stocky on May 15, 2008, 08:36:47 PM
i know its no excuse  but it was a hot day and was being rushed....
was at my mums sorting the wrx as someone was coming to view it spent a long time rushing bout finding log book receipts cleaning etc... when i finally got that done i had a few mins spare so i decided to check the levels on the rx7 was in the middle of checking the water when the bloke turned up so put the bonnet back down to sort that out anyway the bloke left so i drove home which was about a ten min drive at a slow pace as i pulled up into a space steam started to pour out of the bonnet it was then that i realised i hadnt replaced the filler cap it lost a bit of coolant by the time i got the cap back on
it leaked for about ten-fifteen seconds i got a bad feeling this is going to be serious the temp gauge read 103 by the time i had stopped the engine but got no buzzer sound that i had been reading about on other posts im going to fill the system tommorow what will be the signs that something has broke??????
cheers for your help

wouldn\'t stress, fill it up and probably be ok. sounds like you caught it in time. 103 isn\'t bad.

103 isn\'t bad at all, depends where your gauge is plumbed in.

103 isn\'t bad when under pressure.

However, saying that, it probably is ok.

The steam was probably from water hitting hot parts of the engine, and there is quite a bit of coolant in the engine journals anyway, should be ok :)

103 is fine, no worries mate...let us know how the car behaves..i think 115 is problematic...

You did well to only get to 103 without it being under pressure..... Must have had a nice slow drive :)

Like others have said prob not a major concern if it weren\'t like it for too long....
