Title: Looking for advice on large twins setup
Post by: Joeh on May 11, 2008, 03:15:03 AM
Just picking everyones brains as usual :D sorry for the hassle :o

I\'m in for the TD05-16G Twin turbo setup, hoping to fit it on my FD.

The engine is dropped, I\'m replacing all the internals even though I don\'t have to, but I\'d like to give it the overhaul it deserves :).

Now, heres the problem. Single turbo setups are easy, like, I could do them when I\'m sleeping... but this is a little different.

Having Twin TD05\'s, I don\'t know what the hell to do with the rats nest setup, if I bin it like the singles, in theory it wouldn\'t work (right? or am I mistaken?).

Also, I think the TD05\'s as twins would be a little bit of pressure on my injectors. I already have larger (can\'t remember the CC), but could someone advice me on a recommended primary and secondary injector cc and if I should implement additionals, if I wanted to obtain, lets say, 480atw, and would my APEXi BNR fuel pump be happy enough to provide that?

Sorry if I come across as someone without a clue, but I\'m just not very aware with this type of twin large setup :2Confused

Any other additional stuff that you think would be useful for the setup (i.e. change the ignition coil packs, etc) would be great :D I\'m open to ideas!

Thanks everyone for any guidance given (or just reading :2Rolleyes) ! :)

Oh, right, and heres a picture of an FC running the same turbos in bay to give everyone an idea :)

Just set it up like a single turbo, like the one s you can do in your sleep! Delete all the same bits. And enjoy the lag.

might be worth simplifying the rats nest before you start? all fit it all n send it 2 a pro to setup lol

Omg. How much lag would I expect on a full street port (current porting) *dies*
thanks for the advice so far everyone :D think I may just do that interloper :)

Its more Boost threshhold your proberly concerned with rather than lag. And to answer that question, I would estimate 5000+rpm. however I never driven/worked on those turbos on a 2 rotor, only RB26 and they were horrible. So, I cant say for sure it would be at those revs.

Wow, I\'m getting pretty depressed :( Thats more lag than driving a potato :lol

lemme see if I can get in contact with that FC owner.. maybe he has a solution to this ? :3

Would you expect there would be a remedy for this type of lag?

EDIT: Also, forgot to ask, in terms of boost threshhold, do you advise that should I increase pressure in the exhaust using a cat or backbox/simular?

And do you reckon I could run the turbos in series (meaning keeping the rats nest right?)

Twin TD05\'s will be laggy.

I am running twin single apexi turbos on mine and with minimal lag, the car pulls just like a stock twin with power of a large single. Last dyno made; 430 at the wheels at 1.25 bar.

You may want to look in to that.

Its not lag, that would be a desription of say boost between gear changes.
Increasing back pressure will only serve to create a smaller differential pre and post turbine wheel so, no this will not help.
You cant realistically keep rats nest and get them working sequentially without lots of work.
My advice is just bolt them on and use it. Or get a med size single.

reckon yer answer is to fit nos to give you a boost to reduce the lag or a super charger :P

is this the set that was for sale on here? as if it is you do know the manifold will need to be altered to fit an fd.
if the td05\'s will be too big you could always sell them and replace with smaller units.

matt

ps you can bin the whole rats nest as these will behave the same as a single.

Hopefully I\'ll have enough clearance but I do expect to fabrigate the manifolds a little, but yeah, you\'re correct, thats the kit from SpeedLine :) Hopefully collecting this coming weekend :)
