hi this might be a stupid question but in the centre of the engine there is a cap and the sticker has half of it missing. it is just behind the intercooler and has a yellow sticker on it. if anyone can help me out that would be a great help. i just worried that i may put the wrong stuff in it and blow the engine.
Engine coolant filling point if you mean the one on the engine block.
Or the coolant air separation tank if you mean the little bottle type item behind the intercooler.
its most likely the AST, or the water filler cap, water goes in both... Please take a pic?
i just had a look there is a small tank on the back of the intercooler. there is a pipe then linking this to the other part that has a cap witch looks to be part of the engine. both of these look low. is there a special coolent to go in these or is it just water.
thanks
gareth
my car is also standard if this helps.
when you look at the engine the left intercooler pipe runs just to the right hand side of the cap.
Use distilled water to top up but only the one on the engine block not from the ast
Cheers Garith.

thats great thanks do i fill it to the top, will the collent then fill up the ast tank though the pipe that joins the 2.
From my limited knowledge,
When the engine warms up the coolent expands at this stage the water flows to the ast, Which seperates any air from the coolent. One pipe returns the water to the rad the other goes to the overflow. When the engine cools down the water from the overflow gets drawn back into the engine. So the AST will be and different levels through the temperature range. The filler on the engine i think if you fill it to just below the neck part then squeeze the rad pipe abit to expel any air bubbles keep doing this until there are no more bubbles then top it up to just below the neck again. Hope this helps.
Cheers Garith.
i have heard like a bubbling noice when i turn the engine off. that is the water from the overflow drawing back into the engine is it? when the engine is cold should the ast be completly empty?
bubbling noise is likely to be localised boiling, which is unavoidable as heat soak will set in, as long as the system remains pressurised this is normal i\'m guessing...
And no the AST will be full all the time i think
thanks im paranoid about every noise i here ive only had the car 2 weeks and keep thinking the worst when hearing these noises.
thanks again everyone
gareth
lol we\'re all exactly the same mate, but you will get to know the noises your car makes normally and then eventually distinguish between them :)
If you have the standard bonnet and engine setup then it\'s a good idea to open the bonnet for 5 or 10 mins when you\'ve parked up if you can after a run to let the heat out :)
thats what i been doing but with my head 6 inches from the intercooler with a look of panic on my face lol
just been to tescos to try and buy some distilled water and the only one they have have got a fragrance with it? i cant use this could i? its the water that they use in ironing so will all of them have a fragrance in them.
I used battery top up water from halfords but i am sure you could find it in any car parts shop. Personally i would not use one with a fragrance just incase it reacts with the cooling system in some way.
Cheers Garith.
cheers mate i will get some when im in work 2moz then. i was a bit put off when i seen the fragrance on the label.
In relation to the bubbling sound of water being forced to the reserve:
If you could when you have a minute, check if the cooling system presurising (start the engine from cold with the filler cap removed, see if the water gets pushed out in the first minute) I\'m thinking you may have a coolant seal problem and if you\'ve only had the car 2 weeks, I wouldn\'t want you to further damage it. Just a precaution :)
when you say the coolent seals is this the seals that go when you need a engine rebuild?
i just tried starting it with the cap off. when cold the water was just below the hole. after about a minute the water started to rise and go dwn the hole into the ast. is this good or bad? it is very warm 2day aswell where i am.
In relation to the first post, yeah the coolant seals are the o-rings around the engine.
The output you\'ve mentioned doesn\'t sound particuarly good.. however, if there is not too much water pressure created, I suggest googling "o-ring fix" and trying that solution, it may work for you.
I suggest before anything, get it checked by a rotary specialist if there is one near you, or upload a video with the engine stone cold, filler cap off and slight revving from the engine bay (pull the throttle cable).. also some of the exhaust if there is smoke.
Am I right to say that you get white smoke from your exhaust when your engine is warming up?

i dont get no smoke at all i look for this coz i new this was a sign of seals gone. will i still get white smoke in the hot weather
the bubbling noise seems to be coming more from the rad bottle rather than the water filler cap.
yes thats correct, the bubbling would be from the bottle, I didn\'t mean the water filler cap, I just wanted you to observe from there of water flow and any pressure causing the water to rise.
The water will bubble in the radiator bottle because the AST has a pressure rating cap, which, if the water system is pressurising, water is pushed against the AST\'s pressure springed cap, and travels through the hole at the top of the AST, which goes to the radiator bottle.
Is the car De-catted? Could be an early warning thats letting you know the water seals are going, but theres not enough water entering the engine to make white smoke, then again it could be just nothing.
Try leaving the car parked for a whole day+night or two, unused, then start it... if you get white smoke, then its the water entering the engine over the time you\'ve left it parked, that will give you a more accurate answer.
Obviously the smoke will clear after a minute or so, this is because the water can\'t enter the combustion chamber again as the pressure is positive towards the cooling system, but when the engine is off, there is a positive pressure towards the combustion chamber.
Sorry if what I\'m saying is really unclear, just ask if theres something you don\'t understand :)
I wish I could come have a look and help but wales is too far for me :(
thats a great help thanks jst fingers crossed it dnt get any worse for a while i dnt use it much jst on weekends mainly. hopefully it will give me a chance to get some cash together before it gets bad.

Well you never know, there may be no problem at all lets hope :)
If you find a RX7 tuner around where you are, why not pop by and ask them?
