Title: HKS Turbo Exhaust manifold for FD
Post by: AdrianE on May 10, 2008, 03:49:39 PM
I need an exhaust manifold to fit an HKS T04Z turbo on (now that I\'ve decided to sell my GT35/40 kit with an \'undivided\' flange that I bought from horsepowerinabox.com). I bought the T04Z (1.0 A/R) a couple of of months back and have been weighing up various options on what manifold/downpipe combo to use.

I read in a previous thread that \'Red and Single\' has been using the HKS Cast manifold but I don\'t have any details on whether there are RHD and LHD version of this, whether this has a \'divided\' T04 flange (as my T04Z does), or what ext. wastegate would fit it (mine is a Tial v-band 60mm w/g). Does anybody have info on this?

Also in the same thread an HKS tubular manifold was mentioned, also that they are prone to cracking. Does anybody have experiences with this happening? If not, are there RHD or LHD versions?

The other option is to use the manifold/downpipe from a \'turbo kit\' but some of these are very expensive (£2K+) and others have possible quality or design issues...I don\'t want to buy something, wait for it to be delivered and then find out the welding, quality/thickness of the metal or porting/piping design isn\'t what I expected.

BTW I have all the supporting mod\'s that go with a big single. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Adrian

Adrian,

Thought you were going to send us your Wastegate?

I\'ve got a hks cast manifold, this is a divided T4 - if it\'s HKS then it\'s (Jap) Rhd. I\'ve heard of ss manifold cracking when heatwrapped but not the hks one in particular. If you\'ve got a divided turbo housing then you have to get a divided manifold, you\'re probably best off selling the gt35/40 as a kit as it\'s unlikely the dp will fit anyway.

you should keep the tail wastgate you can still use it just put a flange converter on to v band

first dibs if you sell it

they only seem to crack coz the wastgate has hit the subframe or something like other wise there all good but you are better to rap it stop it cooling to fast this also can make it crack

The HKS ones are prone to cracking, and if you are going to wrap them it will retain the heat, and that causes the cracking even more.  This is why we had ours strengthened in the troublesome areas.

HKS Cast Manifold is definately RHD only.
Best place to source them is from Ebay USA.
My 1st one cracked badly, but my car had seen serious track use in japan.
I now have a new one on the car and a spare one at work :D
Rich (20b Boy from Reworx) recons they are tough as old boots so I might have been unlucky for one to have cracked on me.
It is definately a divided T4 flange.
The wastegate is a four bolt pattern for a HKS wastgate IIRC, I think you\'ll need to buy an adaptor or change wastegate (please research this further as I am far from sure).
I\'d look out for second hand HKS T04S /T04E / T04R downpipe and get that converted to suit your T04Z.
