Title: Put my cooling sys back together
Post by: DR SCHNITZEL on May 02, 2008, 09:08:14 PM
...and now the temp shoots up when i start it, but the radiator doesnt get hot, nor do the heaters? I used some of that powdered coolant flush, and im thinking that the gunk of it has stuck on the water pump wheel, im not sure, but im going to take the pump off and see whats happened, but im never using that stuff again, theres no chance i have miss plumbed the coolant system after taking the uim off is there? ive been trying to sort this all night. all help appreciated.

I have already ran a hose into the water tube on teh uim and it flows freely, and out the rad too any comments???:cheers

Thermostat lives here mate, which means you have to take the filler neck off.... Be careful tho if this has not been off before as one of my bolts snapped when taking this off so soak it with plenty of WD or Plusgas first :)

have you tried bleeding/burping the system as you may just have air in there... Take the hose off at the back, top of the throttle body and fill the coolant via the usual place till it gush\'s out of that hose. thats how i do it.

To be fair as leon says, do this that first.... if it\'s heating up that quick it\'s not gonna be the thermostat thats blocked and you\'ll be taking off things you dont need to. Does sound like an airlock to be honest....

Ive tried it all mate, its not an air lock, i think its that flush stuff i used turned to concrete and messed something up somewhere. either blocking the themostat or messing the pump up, ive filled and emptied it about 5 times today. ill take some pics tomorrow of my findings.

How do you know its not an air lock?

Have you bled the system properly?

Just a little tit bit the water pump has actualy very little to go wrong with it, its possible its blocked but all it is mechanicly is an impeller linked by a shaft to the pulley. if you decide to take the waterpump off your going to most likely need a new gasket.

its been asked but how quick does the temp gauge rise from a stone cold engine? you might be chasing a red herring if it shoots to the top from a known stone cold engine this morning :P

I have bled just took the thermo out and it opens fine at temperature, and the water pump is ok. problem now is i think the engines blown an oil seal, after i put the battery on and started it up the engine is chugging and vibrating alot and spitting out smoke and oil under idle. ive screwed it. i take it overheated block would cause this???. dammit now i have 2 rx7s with 2 blown up engines, one with blown rear rotor and one with a failed seal. Have a look for me "theprodigyrule" on ebay im selling all my stuff off, my bits first then 2 rolling shells with blown engines later. some very nice stuff

The system was bled about 5 times last night. inc topping up from the UIM running the heaters squeezing the pipes switching off. over 4 hours. PLOP

The hell o.o how in god name did you over heat an engine on your driveway!? Yeash i feel for you mate but it might not be terminal. Is this your first startup after you put the uim back on?

the temp never went over half but, this is happening now so the engines blown as far as im concerned, smoking vibrating and spitting oil out when i started it. to top the sys up i started the car with the heaters on and squeezed the pipes. i dont know what has happened. but its running just like the one with the blown rotor.

hmmmmmm well i doubt you blew the engine from over heating if the temp never got over half. i do know that when i first did the uim job i forgot to attach the pipe that connected to the oil filler neck, it ran like a dog! gave me a real fright.

The engines lost a rotor now and its spitting out oil, the block must have overheated. im selling all my stuff on ebay. my name is the the prodigyrule i have 2 cars for sale and lots of great bits, may break but id rather sell the shells whole, not enough time to break really
