Title: Taxing my FD3S
Post by: Abe130 on May 01, 2008, 09:59:29 PM
Right, I recently purchased an FD3S and it is about to be ready to go on the road. I always thought the engine capacity when converted to normal terms was a 1.3 litre engine but on my log book it stated 2.6 Litre.

Is there any way I can get this changed on the log book so I only pay 1.3 Litre tax? :3Confused

Thanks in advance :Giggle

all depends on what\'s on your log book.

Some people get away with 1.3
others get stung with 2.6

I tried changing it on my old FD...they caught up with that loophole a few years ago and stopped it

I was unfortunate to register my new FD after Brighton DVLA closed the loophole, £180 for a years tax. The reminder said £99 for the six months, when I went to pay online it said £102.50 for six months. Tax disc arrived today, rate printed on the disc: £101.75!

Sorry for being thick, but if you\'re car is still registered as a 1.3 you still get the cheap tax? or not?

Mine was registered 3 weeks ago as a 1.3, tax is still 1.3 rate and my insurance has it down as a 1.3 so I\'m happy. Just depends what is stated on your v5. Getting a V5 changed is a total knightmare. A friend of mine with a skyline gts-t has gtr on the log book since import and can\'t even get that changed!!

My FB is registered as a 2.3. I called Mazda regarding this, and after speaking to a few people discovered this is a common problem, even now with the RX-8 which is being insured / taxed as a 2.6. One chap was quite helpful, and told me there are 2 options open to me:

1) Contact the dealer who first registered the car - as it was done incorrectly apparently the revision needs to be made by the same dealer, or

2) Write to Mazda\'s head office, detailing the problem. Mazda will then reply with details of your specific car (you need to supply the VIN) so you can send it to your insurance company / DVLA.

As my car is 24 years old I don\'t think contacting the original vendor will help much, so I think I will go with plan b. Seems like the DVLA have made their mind up anyway (swept volume nonsense is fine, but why the x2 multiplier? That excuse explains no more than why they double the displacement in the first place) but I am hoping my insurance will be reduced. Currently it is the same as my old MR2, but then that\'s because they think it\'s a 2.3! If it is changed to a 1.1 / 1.2 (exact displacement is 1146cc I think) that should come down.

Makes me laugh.  I remember the 30 odd page about registering the car as a 1.3 and all the DVLA would do was refer to the Automotive Emmisions Directive which had nothing relating to the rotary\'s displacement.  Now they have written this in as of last year but thats like passing a new law and backdating it which is not allowed :xconfused

I may try re-registering My FD and see what happens.  It\'s a UK so not expecting anything! :Giggle

Mine was first registered in the UK in Oct 2006 ( jap import ) and is logged as a 1.3. (£62 tax for 6 months:yes) It makes a change not to be getting shafted by the tax man for once!

I presume that my car will stay registered as a 1.3, unless I am stupid enough to inform them that I\'d actually like to pay more road tax?:Nono!

Jonathan.
