Title: does my turbo pack need re-built?
Post by: richrx on March 09, 2004, 02:07:31 AM
hi

after reading Lees thread on his engine, i came across a point which said if he drove it then a tip may make its way into the turbo and break it(very technical:D).Also a couple of people said that they still got boost with a broken seal.

when my engine went there was a sudden loss of power with a 100rpm idle tops, when i drove it to the garage it had NO boost at all, i have no boost gauge but couldnt feel anything or hear any spool up.

so how much is a rebuild? is it possible/better to get them uprated, i remember robbie saying this.

cheers

Have you have not completed the rebuild yet,  i would recomend putting a single on it, i have just done this,  rebuild time is the best time to do it, the results are great, and no lag....

What turbo did you get on there?

Must be either a very expensive one or a very small one to give no lag compared to the stock twins in sequential format.

I am not sure if your Turbos are faulty, but I have a spare set in my garage, so when you know if it is the Turbos, make me an offer!!

im only just being able to afford the re-build so i think i\'ll leave the single alone for now.

I think clive\'s trying to shift a turbo pack at the mo too.  There was a post on FDUK earlier:

Quote£200+£15.80 carr.

Rich, if you\'re concerned ask the guys at The Garage to check the turbos when the engine in out, if a tip has gone through them it should be fairly obvious.

I\'d imagine they will be OK, despite lots of people saying this can happen the number of people that have experienced this, and posted on any forums, is very small.

If they have died the cheapest option as mentioned is to simply replace them with a second hand set for 2-300.  You can get them rebuilt, or rebuilt and upgraded but these options cost a lot more.

i will get them checked. i may replace them anyway because when i shifted at 7500prm  there was a fair puff of smoke, although im not sure if that was the engine either:confused:

i think i\'d better get em checked before spending 200 quid pointlessly

cheers all
