Hey guys, I have just tired to do an oil change on my car, I say tried cause when starting to jack the car up I could hear some cracking happening as soon as the jack started to raise the car. My car is pretty rust free to be fair with no rust round any of the arches, but as soon as I heard the cracking I stopped lol so do you guys think I was just hearing some surface rust giving way or do you think it is something more serious? :(
Get under the car and start poking with a screwdriver..
Horrible but the only way to find out :(
Well I have banged the floor with my fist a lot before I bought it to check, and its all solid, hmm I might get a strenghening piece added to the jacking up point on the sill :)
Get a trolley or hydrualic bottle jacks and use it/them under the main front cross member/rear axle. Stop using the side jack.
The sills will gradually give way as the car gets older. I know there\'s still the problem of side-of-road breakdowns but if you get a few more years through the MOT without welding, it\'s worth it.
thats how i found rust on mine , used the side jack on the jacking point and just crushed it completly
thats why i found more and more rust
get it jacked up using a trolley jack and peice of wood to spread the weight and have a good poke around with a screw driver - its the only way to check really
if you are jacking the back end - i usually jack on the diff
The thing is, there are a few rubber \'drips\' from the underneeth, I think it has been undersealed, but not right to the edge lol (typical lol) but yeah I will poke it a bit and ask some people 2morrow to poke it a bit at brooklands lol
