Title: Windscreen wipers - How to improve??
Post by: noyzboy on April 24, 2008, 07:58:36 PM
I had a BMC Cooper S once.
It was accurately described as a 100mph car with 70 mph wipers.
I feel that the wipers on the FD are the same. i.e. Not up to the car\'s performance.
Has anyone got any suggestions on how they could be improved.
Do the springs in the arms get weak?? Are they replaceable ??
Are any of the spoiler gadgets any good ??.

Any ideas at all ???

you can replace the set with a single wiper, which works well by all accounts...

theres a kit on rotaryart.com

A good layer of RainX or Mer Windscreen. Beats wipers anyday.

^^^ What he said ^^^

Rainex the windscreen every 2 weeks and you won\'t need wipers at all other than when you\'re stationary or pootling around town.

PIAA silicon wipers. They constant recoat the windscreen with silicon in heavy rain and if your moving over 40mph you don\'t even need them turned on as the water just flys off.

Has anyone converted to the flat blade type that are on newer cars yet? How effective are these?

Rain X. Its cheap you can buy it in any motorist shop and does everything it says on the label.

i heard that if your wipers ever fly off you can rub half a potato on your screen and it will get you home... lol i dunno if youi wanna do that tho.

i hate the rx7 wipers at anything above 70mph. now i just refuse to drive in the rain or ill go steady.. i think that with the aerodynamics of the rex what happens is at some speeds the wipers start to lift... i think i might try those flat ones next time.

ive got the new ones on mine but the passanger side seems to push down at the edges too much so it lifts of the window in the middle even at a stand still

drivers side is great thoe.

my problem is at proper speeds they go up but wont come back down,
like the motor is too weak, i was planing on using a audi or porche motor and set up.

mine a re crap too, even at a steady speed they have trouble coming back down...  might get a better motor for mine..

(always put a drop or 2 of rainEx in the washer bootle too  :Thumbsup!)

I agree with the PIAA, my mate had some on his car and I was amazed at how easily they glided across the screen :D

Some excellent advice above.
 Thanks guys.

Has anyone tried the PIAA wipers with the spoiler things fitted.
They look like £40 to £50 a pair.

I have a pair of the Piaa wipers and they are alot better than stock. After a few wipes i don\'t use them unless im stationary.

I use that Mer Windscreen cleaner, which certainly helps.  It\'s also worth removing the film that build up on the wipers with a bit of vinegar (or glass cleaner if you don\'t like the smell) from time to time.

Rainex is also good, but can react with some polishes if you get spillages

Me too, once you get to 70 you can put them on intermittent :)
