Title: Porting, Single Turbo and Other Mods
Post by: fly on April 21, 2008, 04:00:27 AM
Im currently rebuilding my FD and i have decided now would be a good time to change to a single turbo, so i would like some advice on what other mods i should do to achieve a reliable 400hp. Any advice on the following questions would be greatly appreciated :Thumbs-up

Sorry for all the questions and i would search for most of the answers but they are quite specific so i would have to trawl through alot of posts :Tongue1  so it would be great if someone could give me some quick simple answers :Thumbs-up

many thanks!

1)Get your plates ported by a rotary tuner
2)You need oil\\water feed\\drain lines, also single turbo you defo need a Front mounted intercooler or V mount.
3)Normally you can get a manifold from where you buying the turbo, but try the vendors on here, make sure on the turbo you get the compressor housing large enough, on a ported motor with at GT35 go for a 1.00 AR
3\\4) keep the primaries at 550 on a GT35 but upgrade to 1600 secondaries with an uprated secondary fuel rail, KGPARTS in the states does a whole kit eg rail, injectors, aeromotive fuel reg, injectors clips, blanking plate for LIM
5) Fuel pump big choice, for 400 rwhp Denso Supra Pump,Apexi BNR33 Pump,Bosch 044
6) Yes the Power FC inconjunction with a datalogit can be mapped for bigger injectors
7) The best results with what I have used is the Greddy Profec II and its good value or Blitz Spec S
8) 2mm 2 piece is fine for that power numerous people run high power FDs with Mazda seals.

for 400 - 450 hp just upgrade the primary injectors to 850cc - so much easier and cheaper - i bought my set (primary rail machined out with 850cc injectors plugged in) from dragon performance for straight swop and its not hard to be mapped on that.

- personally im running a sard 280lph fuel pump - straight swop plus you have an option to buy the voltage relay kit for better fuel. get the SARD TYPE RJ FPR - great piece of kit - easy adaptor to rail and most people in japan run them.

thats it!

Thanks guys, which would be the easiest option out of the injectors, primary or secondary?

Upgrading the primaries will be the easiest in terms of labour, having 850s all round with a big enough enough fuel pressure\\fuel reg and pump it will support up to 450hp, you defo need someone to fine tune the map for idle\\cruise for you as well as boost

I maxed out 4 x 850cc injectors on a stock twin turbo ported motor at 1 bar that was only about 380 at flywheel. Don\'t see a ported motor and a gt35 turbo being supported by 4 x 850cc injectors unless you running very low boost? Best get 1600cc injector. Saying that I think the kgparts injector kit is a crap fit and it\'s either luck or a lot of both to stop fuel from leaking out of their kit.

Max is running 4x850cc with high fuel rail pressure Brian on his T88GK well over 400rwhp. A lot of Jap tuners run very high fuel pressure.
Never had a problem with my KGParts rail myself personally, but yours started to lift on high boost, what rail you using now Brian?

mines runnin perfectly fine from cold idle through high revs and warm idle and im running my 850cc\'s all round - iv got 419fwhp (355@wheels no porting on single turbo kit) but got more to go still. Mapped by pip @ wgt. dragon say they can run you through the map if you have the power fc.

Yes weve been using 4 850s for years. I have not enjoyed fitiing the KG parts kits, I dont think they are designed very well, especially the way the fittings on the end of the rails fit. I have refused to fit the last 2 kits people have brought in.

If you are after a decent rail, then we stock a custom ported Lower Inlet Manifold which has a fuel rail.  Can be used with JIC fittings too.

Unfortunately the price doesnt include VAT, as for using the standard rail, not really....you can use the standard primary rail, but you are free to use either our secondary rail or find an alternative.

We have 4 left in stock.

Give us a ring if you want any further questions....it really does tidy up the engine bay, and will increase the power with the extra porting.

Hmm if you say you want a reliable 400bhp then perhaps think about 3mm seals, the 2mm seals will probably be ok, but I know im gonna get 3mm seals on my next rebuild, it means they can take more punishment if something happens rather than just fail lol

2mm are proven to last and make big power, less rotating mass will mean more power made with less likelihood of damaging housings. 3mm seals have a better chance of surviving det but will require machining of rotors to fit.

I run the 2mm seals with my set up.:wave
