I agree Craig, cars are better than kids.

Having said that I love my nephew, but I can always give him back to my sister if he gets too much! :rollin

Its a good point really, the rotaries are not good on fuel and the prices are not going to be coming down any time soon. One of the reasons i have not bothered getting another one just yet.

As a example i put £10 of fuel in the Punto at 104.9p and it did 91 miles before needing more :Laugh the FD would have done about 25-30 miles only.

But yep i do miss the pure drive of the rx :o

Just did a quick calculation.

I got 9.63 litres for £10, in the Punto it worked out at 43.1 mpg, in the RX it would be 14.1 mpg.

On the larger scale this would mean to complete 10,000 miles it would cost £1111 in the Punto and in the RX it would cost £3371 :Nono!

For the average person with a rx as a show car you might complete say 2000 miles a year in which case its a nice £674 a year which is more reasonable, the same amount in the Punto would cost £222

Before the daft price rises of fuel i remember it was about 80p, which would mean 10,000 miles would have cost £2568, and 2000 miles would have cost £513.

All worked out at 105.0p

These figures might look scary but what scares me is when I hear what

ppl pay to watch a football match each week or spend down the pub. or the cost of

gym memberships etc etc........................

I don\'t do any of the above - it goes in the tank - each to their own.

I totally 100%.......... Disagee.

I had a 2 seater RX7 before I had children.....  My family has grown and I now have a son, but my RX7 has also grown and is now a 2+2.

To be honest the usual "Selling because girlfriend is pregnant" or "Selling because just had kids" is just a poor excuse which they think sounds good.  My son has made no difference to me running my RX7.

Hear what you are saying John, i dont drink or smoke but with the current inflation on everything am not rushing to buy another RX until i see how the inflation pans out, Currently all bills are rising, the cost of fuel is rising, the rate of tax is rising, and buying a car running 14mpg is not a good idea just at the mo.

I think the step forward is to get a RX and then a £500 small car for day to day driving :(

With regards to the cost of petrol putting people off ownership, i run a very cheap VW Polo which costs me pennies to insure and run and the RX comes out when it\'s sunny.

My fuel bill in the Polo is ~ £80 a month, i\'d probably use close to that each week if i used the RX for my commute, i did the sums before buying and it made no sense at all to run the RX everyday, and unless there are some big changes i don\'t think it ever will.

Well said, dude! I have no intention of selling my Rex just to accomodate my little son. If he wants practical transport, he can save up and buy it himself! No reason for me to have to grow up, too!

But theriouthly, so long as I can fit a kiddie seat in, I don\'t see why it\'s any more or less practical than any other car as far as kids are concerned. Plus, I can start him on the true path of a righteous petrolhead as soon as possible, just like it should be. I\'ll even put the back seat and pillion pegs back on the bike for him, then the wife\'ll be begging me to take him places in the nice, sensible, safe FD!

From what people say of the seats in the back of an RX7, they were designed solely for children anyway haha.

Its funny,

as me personally would never put a car infront of my daughter, having a child for me has opened my eyes and heart in a way i did not know, losing a car or your child has no comparison.

Intruth i was absolutely gutted to sell the satin black FD as it was the perfect rx in my eyes and exactly as i dreamed it to be, however one smile from my daughter and all is forgotten.

I am looking to get another rotary and the wheels are in motion already to make it so, as soon as i get it i will be coming to the summer shows with my daughter of course :cheers:D

Just one smile and all my problems are gone:

I\'m quite surprised how many on here seem to be using their rx\'s as daily drivers, I don\'t think I would ever even consider it given the costs of running and maintenance and tbh the fact that it\'s not exactly an easy drive for the commute.

I have an S3 for my daily commute which is almost the opposite to the rx. Everything is light and power assisted, a hoast of electronics and 4wd mean you go round corners at pace simply by pointing it in the right direction and fuel economny isn\'t too bad given the performance at 28mpg. It\'s easy to drive it fast but just not fun in the way the rx is.

Tell me about it. My brother in law goes all over the country to watch his team play.In the past month He\'s travelled to blackpool and norwich, just to watch a footy match.

This is the frame of mind im in. The missis is pregnant, but im not selling the fd. I\'ve gotta have SOMETHING to do on a sunday afternoon:driving

i wouldnt mind the fuel bills to be honest but i absolutely refuse to fill the coffers of an incompetent, greedy, immoral government that gives very little back for what it takes and this is my way of making a stand.

very soon i will make it even more so by moving abroad permanently

I agree with Gurj on the subject of kids, despite my tongue-in-cheek post earlier. Nothing in the world is more important than your kids, and you simply cannot understand how much they change your feelings about stuff until you actually have one. I would never even consider comparing my son and my car on any scale of values! But with that said, I have to have a car to commute to work in, as  really can\'t afford to fall off my bike any more and break anything else if I want to be able to walk in my old age! So, since I have to have a car, and sit in traffic and all the rest, it may as well be an interesting one.

I kinda understand where Najiru is coming from, but I also think that, well, isn\'t that what the point of working to earn money is, so you can spend it on what you like? Once all the nessecaries are paid for, anyway. Life isn\'t a dress rehearsal for anything, it\'s the only one I get, and I\'ll be well ****ed off if I get run over by a bus tomorrow and I\'d spent my life in a Corsa when I could have been in an RX-7! So, I use the bike in summer to get to work, and the FD in the winter, and alternate between the two to go out and go mad in on nice, sunny days off. Why the hell not? I don\'t want to be the richest sorpse in the graveyard!

I have to agree....funny how people say to me
\'\'Oh what a lot of money youre putting in your car\'\'
But they waste £60 on a beer night out, forget most of the night, and only have a headache to show for it the next day!

\'Rotaries not good on fuel\'- I disagree, you wouldnt buy a porsche or lambo and expect good fuel economy. Its a fast car, so it uses lots of fuel! :Hammer

Ill probably be selling mine soon. My girlfriend is 6months pregnant. Unless I get a second car its just wont be an option to keep the RX as ive a half cage and fixed back bucket seats so no where I could put a baby seat.

Also the cost of running the rx really gets me, I barely get to use the performance cos im sitting in traffic at the same speed as everyone else burning 3 or 4 times as much fuel.

Apart from my £15 a month gym membership pretty much all of my money goes on fuel for the car and maintaining it. Prob getting old but i just dont see the point in going out getting drunk anymore its just a waste of money.

Staying in and getting drunk is a far more economical proposition! Special offer on Bombay Sapphire at Waitrose and I\'m a happy man!

Don\'t get me wrong I don\'t object to spending the money on fuel to have fun in the rx at the weekend but spending it to sit in traffic on the way to work would be too much for me. I\'d rather save the money and spend it on improving the car for the next hot sunny day off ;)

I try not to think of how much more I\'m paying to sit in traffic than the guy in, like, the Fiesta or whatever in front of me. Fortunately, my aircon\'s b*ggered, so I\'m usually thinking "I hope this bloody traffic gets moving soon before my nuts boil and render me permanently sterile". Keeps my mind off the running costs!
