Help...........
I have a \'95 Type RB. Apexi intake, Straight through exhaust, PFC, everything else is "standard" (so far as I know, It arrived from Japan in February).
I put the PFC on and it\'s currently on the standard map.
Last week it was running fine and I left it parked for a week. When I came back to it it turns over and tries to fire but doesn\'t succeed. We\'ve changed the ECU back to the "standard"one which is actually a knight sport one and it starts (if you hold full throttle) but dies if you don\'t control the throttle, although at higher revs it seems fine.
We\'ve tried the usual techniques to un-flood the engine. and we\'ve pulled the one of the soleniods out and tested it, but it seems ok.
Also, I\'ve not yet done the rats nest but taken a look and the hoses seem in good condition.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Check the condition of the plugs and HT leads. Could be a weak spark.
I thought I\'d update this to see if anyone has any other ideas. I\'ve been looking at this car on and off for the last week.
I swapped the plugs and checked the spark. All seems ok there.
I\'ve checked the TPS values and that seems within spec.
I only have a normal piston engine compression tester and get very similar readings on both rotors but the readings don\'t make sense to me. I did the test holding the button in so that I could see the gauge "bounce" but I\'m getting a big bounce followed by 2 little ones.......blown tip I thought. Until I tested the other rotor and got very similar readings. erm.......I refuse to believe that 2 seals have been damaged at the same time on both rotors. Opinions please! Has anyone else done a compression test like this, what readings have you seen?
When turning the car over, standing at the exhaust, there are very even pulses which indicates to me, all is ok?
The car stinks of petrol. I\'m aware of the flooding problems these engines get and have "de-flooded" it many times. Could there be a problem with the standard fuel pressure regulater, injectors? Any one know of any tests I can do to check the fueling is correct? The car does start after a lot of effort and usually WOT, it will idle on warm up but won\'t after that.
My next test is to add a manual boost guage and to see what is happening on tick over and driving.
So anyway.
Thought I\'d update this.
Not sure if I mentioned, this is my brothers car, I did a compression test on my car to compare the results. Unfortunitely I got exactly what I thought I should be seeing. Three, big distinct bounces from the tester. I think that pretty much confirms it, one or more of the seals has gone in both rotors.
That\'s not good caus I\'m the one that has to do the rebuild!!!
If any body sees him before me, can you give him the bad news as he doesn\'t know yet and I\'m not really looking forward to telling him! :(
