Title: Wideband Question
Post by: J4P RX on March 08, 2004, 09:37:04 AM
I notice a few people lately have threads about buying these.  Are they installed in a specific car, or can they be moved about and put easily into whatever car you want?

Reason for asking is id quite like to find out before the weekend if my car is running ok fuel wise...

You either need a bung some where in your exhaust (bottom of down pipe, start of midpipe etc) or you can use a tail pipe clamp (like you see at rolling roads for e.g.) if its temporary.

Max has the sensor for his MoTeC plm in the start of his midpipe, this way sensor life is ok and its easy to weld in the bung compared to removing the down pipe and doing it.

Are u on about buying a WB, or borrowing or some thing? you\'ll need a bung if so...

Lee, you can move these between cars without problem, but you do need a lambda bung welded into the exhaust system.

I was thinking about maybe borrowing one.  I didnt imagine it would take long to check out if it was ok or not, but it now looks a bit difficult.

I dont even know what a lambda bung is, nevermind where I can get one and get it welded into the exhaust all before the weekend :(

The bung is just a threaded insert that you weld into the exhaust and then screw the sensor for the lambda meter in to. When not in use you just just screw some thing in to it to blank it off.

Go see Steve at DS if thats any where near you - sure he can  probably sort u out quick. Only have to whip it off, chop a hole in it and weld the bung in place.

Tailpipe probe will be useless if car still has a cat. If cat gutted then you should be fine.

Nope I have no cat.

I might pop it down the local rolling road place and see if they can tell me if its fine.  Thing is, not being specialists they may not have any idea of what is fine or not because I know I havnt

Lee, just tell them to stop if your AFR goes above 11.5 (under WOT), other than that just get them to do a run with the sensor on and post up your graph of it.  The locals will tell you what is good/bad/indifferent about it :)
