I\'m 27 (stop laughing at the back!) I have four years no claims and a clean licence.. My renewal with elephant wasnt impressive so with the bad luck i had with AON and A plan couldn\'t get it below £700. but got insured with SKY for £450
They had it down as a 2616cc as well which is always a good thing.
If you want to give them a call - ask for Jason, hes a and nice helpful... his number is 0208 3645500
Sounds like you had a better experiance than I did. I called them looking for a quote when I had the Soarer, and whilst they were very helpful, they also purposely changed my DOB to make me older... (I was 24 at the time) When the schedule came through I questioned it and was told \'not to worry about it\'. Needless to say I decided against going with them.
Just check the docs they send you and I\'m sure they will be fine :)
Ill make sure everything is correct.
Sky said that they would replace any modifications like for like. Which made me happy.
Elephant said that if i bumped my car or lost a wheel or something they would only repair it with standard colour and replace it with a standard alloy wheel and wanted £40 extra just for that!! Now thats dodgy!!
I\'m currently insured with Sky and have been for a while now. I\'ve found their service to be one of the most helpful out there, with premiums to match :)
When I insured the rex they got a few bits wrong on the paperwork when they sent it through, but credit to them, they got it changed and within a couple of days I had new and correct paperwork.
Can\'t comment on their service when making a claim, and hopefully I won\'t have to :)
Another happy customer here, Just took out a policy with them today:
28
9 yrs NCB (how the hell that came from my renewal company I don\'t know as I\'ve only had a policy in my name for 5 years??)
fully comp
Listed mods
£300 exess
£457 total premium
And another helpfull thing... the guy I spoke to knew exactly what he was on about, he asked what car it was & when I said RX7 his reply was "Nice car mate, she single of still on twins?" at that point I knew I was in good hands :) also knows about the Vmount setups, ECU\'s etc, so he was very healpfull!!
Jono
I was with sky last year and renewed with them this year. I would be very careful before choosing sky.
Come renewal time I negotiated the price down with a nice lady over the phone, they agreed to beat elephant on a fully comp quote. When I go the paperwork through it was only 3rd party fire and theft.
When I phoned up to question they then refused to offer the price match on elephants quote. So I suggested I would exercise my distance selling rights, cancel my policy and go elsewhere. Sky informed me that if I cancelled they would keep their commission approx £100.
So to summarise, when all is going well yes they are a very pleasant company to deal with but they have some negatives:
- It is very expensive to cancel a policy with them.
- Changing car halfway through the term is also far more expensive than other places. (in the past I have changed my car a lot).
- The paperwork I have received from them is rather light, I used to work in insurance audit and I am uncomfortable with the lack of detail I have on my policy.
I can\'t fault them either, when I spoke to the bloke on the phone to sort out premium we spent a good bit chatting about cars and rexes in particular. Didn\'t have my specific model listed so although their screens states 93\' Type R is 2354cc they were more than happy to send out an additional attachment letter acknowledging capacity as 2616cc.
And you def can\'t go wrong with like-for-like replacements on all bits! :D
Always puts your mind at ease when you know you\'re talking to someone with a bit of knowledge about cars!!
Yeah i agree certainly know what they are talking about, however they still couldn\'t beat or in fact get anywhere near A-Plan or Aon\'s quotes even with the discount.....Must be related to age....
Always good to know they are out there tho :)

My quote from them was nearly sixty quid less than the one from A-Plan! Bizarre!
I\'ve got a sneaking suspicion that Sky have a very specific type of customer who they insure, my mate (27, full NCB) tried to insure an R32 Skybus but was told they couldn\'t insure him, yet I (23, 4yrs NCB)had no problems with the Rex?? :O

rex owners are obsessed with there cars? where skybuser\'s are posers :Ladys-man
I didn\'t have any luck because they couldn\'t find the car on their system, i then went on to read some rather dodgy stories about them so was glad.
Thought I would post up some positive things about Sky as its always good to hear about actual claims rather than I heard this and I heard that. Firstly I have been with them now for 4 years. The company were the recommended coice of Supra Mk4 forum in 2006. I have had two claims with them in one year! I wrote off my mint UK Supra 4 months into ownership the car was bought for £10k. The claim was settled for £9.5k, no issues and no drama after submitting testimonials and photos(2006). I then swapped the policy onto an audi S4 2.7 bi turbo. The car was stolen off the drive during the night even though insured as gargaed (fell asleep and took myself off to bed), it was involved in a police chase and not suprisingly it got away. The car was recovered but damaged. It had suspension geometry checks, full new exhaust, bodywork repair, new discs and pads 4 new 18" wheels with toyo proxies. Again this has all been done without any fuss. More importantly they have always worked hard to keep my custom and have so far always price matched. Always ask to speak to Jay he will be able to find the fd on the system! Happy motoring.
Thanks for that Paps, was the Supra Mk 4, itemised as \'agreed value\'? Cheers Bob
No did not take out agreed value with them, I was a little naive and it would have saved me sending of written testimonials and photo\'s etc.
after hearing good things about sky i gave them a call to get a quote on my FD, the guy said he had to look up the instructions for that car. Asked me a very simple questions one of them was "does your car have an alarm?" which mine does not. He said that a rx7 would have to have an alarm otherwise sky would not touch it.
Trouble is i dont want an alarm!! the car is always parked in a locked garage in a good area, is sometimes left standing for weeks, also i dont want any problems with the iginition after getting an alarm fitted. I see it as aonther thing to go wrong or cause problems and it really isant something i need, and of course it costs money.

LOL!!! what a load of nonsense!!!
don\'t want an alarm!? A toad cat1 costs 200 to fit. just make sure that it is fitted properly, theres lots of info on this site.
Its a small request by an insurance company if you own an FD which is a group 20 car.
You know these cars are so easy to steal it isnt even funny. Its complete madness not having an alarm!!!
yes but i live in a little town in somerset, and the car is always parked in a locked garage, theres no chance its gonna get stolen.
i\'m having a bit of fun with sky. not only do they want copies of my paper and plastic license (i\'m 38 and never been asked for these before) but they want proof that i have my toad immobiliser fitted. problem i have is the car had the immobiliser fitted when i bought it and doesnt have a certificate. i sent them these details in a letter and all they have done is write back asking for the certificate again ignoring what i wrote.
they were only £40 cheaper than my previous insurance and if i hadnt paid upfront i would of gone back to them. i wont be renewing after this its just hassle that i cant be doing with. i paid the whole year up front nearly 2 months ago and i still dont have a certificate of insurance.
can we become a member on their site for discount? or is mazdarotaryclub already a registered car club with sky?
Already a member mate - Just tell them over the phone.
Although SKY are currently on my sh!t-list -> just got call to renew and they\'ve dropped my premium by all of 40 notes!!!! :reallymad :reallymad :reallymad
unfortunately they don\'t cover Northern Ireland :(
hmm, not impressed with Sky. just got off the phone to them and they won\'t offer insurance to people who don\'t have a year\'s experience driving RWD cars (i\'m 23, 3 years no claims, 5 years full license, no points, never claimed). sounds a bit silly to me...

Never had that when I first got my FD  It does seem to me (as also seems the case with other insurers) that it all depends on who you get on the other end of the phone as to the experience you get.

Same here and i was exactly same conditions as OP - 23, no experience, 5yrs NCB no points.
Not renewing this year though - only dropped premium by 50 squid... not happy!!!
Mine dropped by about £300 this year (turned 25, probably the reason), still rang them and got them to drop another £100.
sounds like the guy i spoke to was playing silly buggers. i\'ll give them another ring and see if i can speak to someone sensible.
Well i changed my mind about these guys.
I had a policy with them for two months and then sold my rx7 and cancelled my insurance, wrote in and was told that i would get 300 pounds back of my 450 that i paid to them.
It would take 4-6 weeks. I thought that this was unreasonable as when they want money your lucky to get 7 days!!!!
Anyway 8 weeks have passed and they paid me back only £175!!! i was furious. I managed to calm down a bit and spoke to the insurance company they claim that they can take 50% of the money and theres nothing i can do about it. they said they also took their commission and a 29 pounds admin charge.
never again will i pay for my insurance up front. Insurance companies are all hypocrites and thieves, ill be definatley writing to the ombudsman. Theres is no way im going to pay £250+ for only two months insurance!! especially when i called to cancel the insurance i was promised £300 back!!!
So if you plan to sell your car dont do it while your insurance is still in its infancy or if you have paid up. You will be robbed.

Yep agree with you here Naz,
Insurance is the greatest legal robbery there is :spank
Well apart from "green" taxation :rolleyes::rolleyes:
Yes i\'m looking at you Gordon :Yawn:flamed
I wanted to end my insurance one month early, i was told that it would cost £38 to do it! penalised in effect! that was with Elephant
