Post by: stocky on April 16, 2008, 05:48:00 PM
what fuel is everyone using ive been using optimax all the time but this has a octane rating of (so im told) 98 but the tesco super unleaded in my area is 99 octane would the tesco fuel be a better move???
i know its only 1 octane difference but is there different addatives in the optimax??

tesco is wholesale, you cannot guarantee what you will get, unlike mainstream fuel ie optimax.

Been running on Tesco\'s fuel for 2.5 years without a hiccup. :)

Optimax is 97, nut they no longer make it. v-power is 99.
I think tescos 99 is made from cheaper ingrediants they just add 5% bio fuel to increase the octane, unlike vpower which has been produced to a higher standard.

Do a wiki search for RON and it will give a better explanation. I\'ve used tesco quite a lot and never seen any issues with it.

There are only so many refineries, and you will see several lorries of different brands filling their tankers at them.  I suspect the difference will only be in the additives, which must presumably be added to a common base stock.

I\'ve used Tesco 99 and Optimax / V Power with no discernable difference in performance.  I tend to get V power if I have to fill up close to work, but probably do 4-5 fills of Tesco for every tank of Shell.  V Power has detergents added to help clean fuel pump / injectors, can\'t say for Tesco\'s.

Car\'s can be funny things - I\'d say run a tank through of one type of fuel and decide for yourself, but the rotary seems to like the 99 RON stuff.

ill give the tesco fuel a try as more tesco stations with 99 than shell garages that have v power
