Hi, Im looking to buy my first RX7,
I went to have a look at this car
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/MAZDA+RX7/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146,N-4294967255-4294967256/advert.action?R=200810305354480&distance=323&postcode=eh14+1sz&channel=CARS&make=MAZDA&model=RX7&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=
Now, it looks like it was a single turbo from the advert he placed, went down to see it and then he told me he thinks its a twin turbo, so i decided i was only going to buy if it was a single turbo.
I get a call saying it is a single turbo later that day.
Im very dubious as to whether it is or isn\'t. There are two air filters so im guessing its the twin turbo? I\'m just curious if he was at it or not.
Cheers
Looking at the pics it\'s still a twin turbo.
cheers for the quick resposne, i told the guy i was still dubious about the twin/single turbo even after he told me he found out it was a single.
He is either at it or just really knows nothing about the car which also worried me. How can someone own a car like that and not know anything about it
Yes, its a twin turbo looking at the pictures. Like you say, if the owner doesnt know something as simple as that, can you be sure it has been looked after properly?
Well i turned tail and ran after speaking to him anyway,
I just wondered if i was right or not about the turbo\'s
I dont know much about rotaries so will be asking on here before i go see the next one!

Sorry to be bitchy, but how can someone go and look at a car like an RX7 ...and not know anything about it either !!!! :Nono! .The visible clues between a single and original twin turbo are obvious....huge...unmissable. I would suggest you do a lot more homework, or take someone who knows, before you part with any money. :Thumbs-up
the thing is i dont know much about them but i still knew alot more than him.
But u are right aswell, more homework for me :D
why have you decided to go for a single turbo out of interest? If you have little experience of the FD it might be an idea to try one "as Mazda intended" i.e. as twin turbo first.
Shame in a way about that car it is a later model (97) which is nice and rare, says it\'s had an engine rebuild (again, worth checking on). might be a bit of a gem...
well somehow my insurance company will insure me a lot cheaper on a single rather than the twin, even though the single will most probably be more powerfull.
I explained this on the phone and they told me it must be because there are more quotes on the twin.
It was a cracking car i was just unsure about the owner, he was also willing to knock 1k off the asking price. I just had a bad feeling, ive probably shot myself in the foot but i couldnt buy with that dodgy feeling i had, maybe it was the last nights dinner haha
Who was that with?
Admiral. I\'m not sure how they are classing the car
Check they aren\'t quoting you on a 2354cc RX7 turbo - if so it\'s wrong.
No FD RX7 was made single turbo by the factory - so it has to be listed as a modification which normally equals big bucks
They are probably classing it as a Turbo II - the earlier single turbo Rx7.
Even when i quote with a number plate as reference i still get the same classification. Its all abit strange
I would be VERY careful when insuring your car with any of the Admiral group insurance companies.
How come? Admiral dodgy like?
any reason for that, so far ive been fairly happy with them.
Touch wood
If you say it is a single turbo they will see it as an FC3S (turbo II) not the FD3S. I would give them the reg and the model RX7 and it should come up as a Turbo II, thing is as it was a 97 car it is more difficult to quote for, UK FDs were only available from 92 to 94/95 so any car after that doesn\'t show up in the normal car lists that insurers use so by saying it is a single turbo they will probably manually put it as an Turbo II! You need to make sure they quote you for a 2.6l engine not a 2.4l if it is a 2.4 you\'ll be mis quoted and you cover won\'t be valid!
Check out the Insuring your rotary section, there is a good list of insurers that member have used there.
I don\'t think Admiral are dodgy, but I suspect as a mainstream insurer, they may not have the capability to cover our cars and you\'ll find you get misquoted by them.
Yeah, for stock, unmodified cars admiral are great. I\'ve been with them for a few years now.
Trying to insure a import / performance vehicle.. umm, yeah - As sadgoth said, It\'s not that they are dodgy, but their line of business / underwriters just aren\'t set up for such quotes.
