Title: What amp do I need??
Post by: leeroy_25 on April 15, 2008, 09:40:48 PM
I am starting to plan my boot build for my rx7.. I have a set of 6x9\'s and a pair of 12" subs that I was planning to put it in.. Currently I do not have an amp to power it all and wondered what would be best suited to the job? for a start how many channels do I need? I gather not just 4 or does it depend on the amp? I need 2 big power channels for the subs and 2 not so big power channels for the amp.. How can I achieve this? Bridging on a 6 channel? Whar size speakers can I fit in the door without any mods? I need to get some tweaters/mid range speakers sorted!

Cheers
Lee

lee its 13 cm in the front without mods if your going to have the fronts rears and subs get two amps a 4 channel for the mids and 6x9s and a nice mono or two channel for the subs

An option I suppose! What\'s the advantage there as a pose to a 5 channel or 6 channel? Obviously it will take up more room! and presumably cost more?
to run 2 subs from a mono do you just connect them together then? which presumably splits the power output in half accross each sub effectively?
Thanks

trust me u will not need more than 1 good sub
i have the alpine pdx 4.150 for front and rear and 1-600 for the sub and unless u  want permenent hearing loss this is more than adequate..the rx7 is only a small car with limited space
i had to build door pods for mine to get a decent speaker that didnt vibrate when u crancked up the power..the prob with lower end amps is the filtering of the sound for the sub  u really need a dedicated mono amp for best results

6 channel amps are ok but for good results better to do seperatly yes for mono amps you just wire the subs in series or parrallel depends on the out put and ohm capability .

if your concerned about space  use a 4 channel for the car speakers and an active sub box for the bass i had an inphase active in my rex 1400 watts sounded great and removable ofr track days and extra space

what head unit do you have? Chances are you can run both the fronts and 6x9s of off the internal amp. (will say something like 4x45W on the front). I did this in my old fiesta and used a decent amp for my subs.

If you do it this way you can spend a bit more on a decent dedicated sub amp. And also not end up filling the already limited boot with amps!!

Just my two cents though mind!!
