Title: Am i being paranoid?
Post by: T11MNM on April 15, 2008, 07:46:35 PM
I\'m not sure if i\'m losing water or if i\'m just being a bit paranoid.

My car doesn\'t over heat and i haven\'t heard a coolant buzzer or seen a coolant light since owning it.

However it seems that everytime i check the coolant it looks a little low. I.e it isn\'t to the top of the filler neck where i leave it when filled up. When i top the water up i only add a very little, maybe less than 50ml to bring it back to the level i left it at the last time i topped up.

I can\'t see any water leaks around the car, or atleast it isn\'t leaking water when it\'s stood, no hard pipe action and i just started it without the full cap on to check for champagne bubbles and didn\'t have any showing just before i chickened out and stopped it from over flowing by turning car off.

The car is booked in for a service and coolant flush with Pip at the end of May, i\'m just wondering whether or not it might be worth bringing that further forward for if nothing else putting my mind at rest.

Cheers

Tim

Another possibility is a cracked coolant pipe between the AST and the overflow (this was diagnosed on my rx7, amongst many other issues)

It meant that when the coolant warmed up and expanded, water would be pushed out to the overflow, but couldn\'t be drawn back again afterwards.  This meant the overflow was always nicely full, in my case.  Of course, if the crack had been slightly larger, or in a different location, it could have lost the water before it got to the overflow.

Anyway - thought i would mention it, as it would explain loosing some coolant, without leaving damp spots underneath.

if there is too much in it it returns it to the coolant pot down in front of the front wheel.  so you will prob find you are just slowly filling that up.
