Post by: luckynumberseven on April 15, 2008, 03:24:29 PM
Hello to you all.
I Have a rx7 fd3s i have had it over a year with my share of problems the worst was having it rebuilt at 96,000 km. jimmy\'s rx 7 specialist did therebuild and upto now (105.000 km) getting better and better i am very pleased with it.

My reason for posting is to ask ay of you know a friendly m.o.t place i can take my car to the car is standard apart from a drop in k&n filter and blitz nur spec s cat back exhaust the car is an import,i am hopeing i won\'t need any work done on it to pass it\'s m.o.t.

My only concern is it not having a fog light even though i don\'t use my car in any bad weather i believe it should hve one yet not every rx7 i have seen has got 1 are there any issues with me driving without an mot if i got stopped and had it booked in for an mot could i use this to continue to use my car all summer.
Any help is very much appreciated.

I think having a foglight is a UK requirement, thats why on the UK models they have them, if you import you need to get 1 fitted :(

a lot of us build them into the rear brake light or reverse light

agreed the fog lights that are just bolt on do look a tad untidy

although if they bolt on, then accidentally fall off after the MOT... :)

The last time i had my import fd motd (which was the first) the guy who was doing it rigged one up for me, didn`t cost too much. All he done was put a red bulb in the rear bumper lights and then rig up a switch just underneath the stearing wheel, it`s a crude setup but it works!

It shows you how to convert the drivers rear reverse light in to a fog light I have only had my RX7 FD3 for 2 weeks now and it does not have a fog light so i am going to do what in the guide as bolt on lights look messy.

I\'d do a mini service - plugs and oil change and check all your lights are good, brake fluid reservoir topped up and brakes - including handbrake are all good and working - the only possible thing on the basic car is rust underneath - might be worth jacking it up and checking.  Also check all lights on the car are functional, and you\'ve tread on the tyres.  With your exhaust and intake changes you might have emissions issues - but it should be ok.

You can drive to an MOT station without MOT or TAX provided you have insurance and are driving the car to an MOT station for a PREBOOKED (that bits important) appointment or from an MOT station to a garage to have work done as a result of an MOT failure.

As for the fog light - the police won\'t stop you for not having one, but the MOT requires it in the UK.  You need at least one, it should be on the drivers side if just one light is fitted, and not be higher than or outside of the normal lights.  It\'s operation should not interfere with any other light and you must also having a working indication or warning light within the car which will indicate the fog light is on.

I say just wire it into the driver side reverse ligh and a nice switch and be done with it, not fannying about everytime mot comes round.
