Title: Paint for Wheels???
Post by: SmbFD3S on April 14, 2008, 04:48:56 PM
No idea whether this is the right section, but couldn\'t think of anywhere to post it to be quite honest....

Anyway, i want to refurb some Super Advans that i have which are the red and black style, with the red being anodized or anodized effect.

I want some of this to redo them with :-

BUT..... I\'ve been looking around the net for days and cannot find ANYWHERE in the uk that sell it or something similar to it, which is annoying !!

Do you guys know where i can get hold of some of this or something similar ???

Oh and btw, i can get it shipped but it\'s $131 just to ship it !!!! which is a bit steep obviously

Contacting your local car paint supplier is your best bet as some can put the paint in cans for you if you don\'t have a spray gun set up .:wiggle

Well have tried everywhere i can think of including Halfrauds and no-one in the UK does this as far as i am aware...  Which is a bit of a problem if you have anodized effect wheels or anything else cos you wont be able to get them touched up....

Maybe a hole in the market... I think this paint would go down well in the UK Car Scene to be honest...

May have to re-think the colour of the wheels now :(

Yeah i did look at that but they dont do it in red....

There must be someone or somewhere that has some or can mix it surely....  I can\'t be the only one who has annodised effect wheels ??

I am in the same situation as you. I have also been looking into refurbing my super advans. I would like the appearance of an anodized or polished rim but don’t want to pay the £300 odd I have been quoted for a professional refurb.

There are some interesting paints including a chrome effect paint in The Range(a fairly national chain). However  I have not taken the plunge as I am not sure on their durability or quality.

If you do find a decent paint I would be very interested to see your results.

Hi Philo, due to not being able to find any of that stuff in the UK i\'ve decided i\'m gonna sandblast the wheels anyway and then try a few test sprays....

I\'m gonna try and match the colour as near as possible to a metallic red from the standard paint range by taking a flake of paint (if i can get a big enough flake off) to a local paint supplier so he can mix me some up so i\'ll let you know how i get on.....

If you get a clear lacquer and add a red dye to it (the same as they do for candy top coats) you should get the effect your after for not a lot of money guys. If you\'ve the gear to spray it then a 2k paint should be tough enough to stand upto the heat and dust on the wheels. Both the dye\'s and lacquers can be got from your local paint supplier or ebay.
