looking at getting my e shaft and rotors balnced. where is the best place to get this done?
also does anyone know where to get race rotor bearings from or will stock bearings be up to the job in a high rpm strip car
not worth it getting this balanced unless you are planning on reving past 11k and wanting to develop 600bhp.
Get the rotors clearenced would be as far as I would go.
Spend the money on Big porting and big Turbo.
Depends on the size of your budget and wallet, what is you goal?
i don\'t know about that - i have spoken to a few companies in japan and they say it is good for engine response - if you are rebuiding may aswell get e.shaft balanced and shot peened.
Its not like you are getting a piston engine crankshaft balanced, you will defo need someone who has experiance in doing rotary E-shafts.
A lightened Flywheel will give you similar response gains.
Still we need to know what Jamies goals are, the Mazda E-shaft from the factory is pretty good as is for up to 600bhp
agree on that. do need to know what you aim for - if you are on stock twins i would say just wasting money. lightened flywheel and pulley kit would be cheaper -
well i already have a pretty decent sized bridge port and i have the exhaust ports done pretty large aswell. still have the inserts in however but have been machined down a bit, so i didnt have to remove them. 2 mm seals and one piece corner seals, racing side seals etc.
had a gt45 ( cheap e bay crap) but sold that in favour of a hks t51r spl kit.
enlarged throttle body and ported manifold with extra injector holders.
just pretty much going the whole hog on it really. looking to get the block dowelled aswell. sequential shifter, chromolly half shafts to much to list tbh.
just want an all out strip orientated monster lolwant over 600bhp tbh
Speak to Pip at WGT he got mine done.
what did you have done ? balancing and clearancing ? how much did you pay ball park if you dont mind me asking ?

tbh dude, all that would warrant is having the rotors clearenced.
i do know there is a place in worcester somewhere that does e-shaft and rotor assembly balancing though

Wow that is one heck of a list - any pics available? would like to see this motor - cooling? who did the original build?

Really, wheare is that?
Not that im having mine done, just wonder what other services they might offer?!
will get some pics up of the build soon when i bolt it all together. all work was done by myself apart from the bridge which was done by carl haywood. cooling will be by an alloy radiator which i havent decided on yet, supplied by an electric water pump.
who could clearance them for me?
Hi Jamie,
I have balanced every type of Piston race engine I have built over the last 30 odd years in the quest to remove any vibration that could destroy an engine at revs , however personally I have not heard of anyone ever balancing a rotary and have always presumed that this is because you do not have con-rod journals and crankshaft webs sticking out a long way away from the center line of the shaft on a rotary.
Having said this there would be absolute no harm in have the eccentric shaft assembly balanced if you wish.
If you do wish to pursue balancing treat it like a piston engine and present the shaft with the flywheel, clutch and the front pulley bolted together as a total assembly.
Here is a company that you can talk to about your balance if need be,

As for the bearings there is no need for an upgrade as the shaft does not actually run on the bearings, it runs on the film of oil created between the two surfaces,
At one time many years ago at Indianapolis an engine called an Offenhauser was king and in the search for more power one guy went to great expense to convert his engine to full roller bearing to dump the white metal bearings.
Guess what, it produced no extra horsepower, completely proving he had missed the fact that all the spinning bits in any engine have no direct metal to metal contact and all these bits run on an oil film.

Isn\'t a bearing that uses a film of oil a journal bearing as found in turbos??
I heard that story about the bearings to, but there is an advantage from a reliability point of view, if for what ever reason you got oil starvation the roller would save the part.

I have seen new Turbos die real quick with lack of oil feed and whilst I see where your coming from, due to the severe heat involved I\'m not sure a ball bearing would last any longer than a plain metal bearing when the oil feed is taken away.
what does clearencing the rotors involve btw?
